Played here today after an extended summer of no rain. Despite that, the course was green where it counts. The greens were consistent & surprisingly hard to read. Many Kangaroos on the course which is nice to see but bad for the course. I hit one of them on the fairway, as they don't move until you almost tread on them. The first few holes are fairly plain but then it gets more interesting. Even though I liked playing here, Axedale, just a short distance away, was a much better course.

Had the chance to play there recently. Unsure what to expect when reading previous reviews. What a surprise! Our playing group played on a Friday heading to the river, course is terrific for a country course. Great layout with top class greens, mixed grass fairways with their tees the only thing to stop a perfect score. Got to speak with locals on the day who told us of their dying pine tree replacement program and native grass placements, Really enjoyed, go and play it. We had a ball!

My wife and I played Heathcote recently and unfortunately were quite disappointed. I generally love country golf courses but this one didn't satisfy. The tree-lined layout is OK however there is a distinct lack of definition of the target when hitting to the greens. The tees were uneven with a patchy grass cover, the fairways OK with a blend of multiple grass types, the greens were well grassed, true & quite quick if you got above the hole, the rough relatively bare and the green surrounds bland & inconsistent. The green fees were very reasonable however; we won't be rushing back to play the course.

Played hear on the morning of the 19th January 2013, what a major disappointment, fairways covered in kangaroo droppings. An average layout with small greens and very few bunkers. Several nice holes but most are boring. Rang the course a week before we played and were told the comp was stableford, went to hand in our cards and were told the comp for the day was actually stroke, told the guy we spoke to its not that hard to have your syllabus on your website. Would be hard pressed to recommend this course to anyone and wont be back for a long time. Better of playing at nearby Axedale which is a much more interesting layout with excellent greens and well grassed couch fairways.

Heathcote measures 5861m Par 71 with five par 3s ranging from 130-185m, nine par 4s ranging from 260-414m and four par 5s ranging from 435-534m. Course has common couch grass fairways and a mixture of rye grass and common couch grass teebeds. The 15-20m long small-medium sized penneagle bent grass greens with a little of poa grass in them (which gets sprayed off) are smooth with gentle undulations. The layout is not heavily tree-lined with fairways wide enough to navigate a decent score... In terms of hazards, there is a yellow-staked (dry) stream cutting across the 1st, 4th and 9th fairways, a pond 30m short right of the 185m 2nd green, a yellow-staked pond on the left of the 6th, and a red-staked pond far left 10m short left of the 13th green with only 7 bunkered holes and a disappointing total of 10 bunkers on the course. Overall, Heathcote is probably one of the more challenging of the 6 layouts in Greater Bendigo with a private trotting track along the northern boundary of the course which has reduced the length of this course and the tree removal along the road has changed the visual amenity of the 13th hole. Highlights include: the 534m slight bend right 9th (index 8) has OOB Paterson Street along the leftside with a yellow staked (dry) stream cutting across the fairway about 20m short of the 25m long front sloping green which is guarded by 2 bunkers; the 393m straight 11th (index 2) with a long double green shared with the 18th; the picturesque 153m 13th (index 16) with a gentle downhill teeshot to a 20m long left-sloping green to the red-staked pond 10m short left from the front edge of the green which is also guarded by a bunker short right; and the 160m 18th (index 14) with a long double green which should not be in play, however, the 2 bunkers long left and short right are in play from the tee. The best attributes at Heathcote are its 11th/18th double green, the variety in length of the par 3s and par 4s and its smooth and well-paced penneagle bent grass greens. With holes having a slight bend to them and the gentle undulations and slopes of the fairway, Heathcote could be much more challenging if they added to the course's 10 bunkers. I feel the 393m straight 11th (index 2) would be a good finishing hole as it is played gently uphill with the clubhouse being visible from tee. Course access is off Patterson Street. Played here 28/09/2012 with $22 green fees 7 days a week. Heathcote is one of SIX 18-hole grass green courses within the Greater Bendigo area which has around 100000 people. Heathcote has around 2800 people and is located in the eastern edge of the city boundaries about 45km (or 30 minutes) east of the Bendigo CBD and approximately 240m above sea level.

Lovely country track well presented with a good mix of holes. Some of the fairways are really tight drives. The greens were a good pace and rolled nice and true. With a few more bunkers, water in all the water hazards and deeper rough this would be an extremely challenging course. The club runs on mostly volunteer labour and the hospitality was very friendly. Vistors are welcome to hit play in the Thursday and Saturday comps for comp fee only.
