One of the most picturesque sand green courses in Victoria. Situated on the Avoca river in the beautiful Pyrenees wine region. 18 hole sand green course, with a challenging layout along the Avoca river with hundreds of 80+ yr old river red gums to contend with. 2019 host of the prestigious Victoria sandgreen championships for men and women.$10 green fees, visitors always welcome with 9 holes available during summer & all 18 open from March to October. To see this course at its best, visit between late July and early October, (annual tournament held in 1st week of August). Course has suffered over the last 6 years due to mismanagement, but is now on the improve with a new committee and a new direction the course and club is well on its way back to being in the top 5 sandgreen courses in Victoria once again. See you all at the Vic sandgreens at this lovely course in Sept 2019.

Played here today on a Wintery 6 degree day. I had seen the course during last Summer & it was virtually unplayable but the recent rains had it covered in a good coat of grass, which made a big difference.  The details have been spelt out by the 2 previous reviewers & I rate it as number 6 out of the 32 sand scrape courses that I have played. It is far from the best as previous reviewer least not now. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the course for what it had to offer.

Avoca is among the top rank of Vic. sandscrape courses;partly this reflects its relative difficulty-altho only par 68,the ACR 70 indicates a challenging test to complete a par round, with 3 longish par 3s and 6 x par 4 over 350m. Avoca also has a good layout, with considerable variation in length and shape of its par 3 and par 4 holes, some elevation change (holes1&2) and 3 doglegs left and 2 right.Fairways are well grassed and scrapes have a good coverage of coarse sand, unoiled, sufficient to allow confident chip shots from the scrape approaches.Scrape surrounds are mostly acceptable from front or side, less so if you are thru the "green".Mostly the course has a parkland feel with tree lined fairways, but holes 4-8 lie in an attractive open meadowland. There are several noteworthy holes; 1.374m. an exhilerating from a raised escarpment at clubhouse level. 2.117m. short, steeply uphill over a creek. 7.136m. OOB tight right flank. 8.354m. lovely undulating hole, river on right flank. 10.290m. acute dogleg right to ledge green. The finishing holes 15-18 are all good-couple of doglegs, par 3 of 191m.,and 18 with the river along the right flank.

Avoca is in the middle of the Pyrenese wine area. The course itself is a pretty course which is tight with well established tree lined fairways. Well worth a round a couple of wines at the local wineries.
