Played here on Father's Day. I hadn't played this course for probably 12 years. It has completely changed from a muddy winter track to nice Santa Anna fairways. Many trees have been removed, to give it a bit of a links type feel. Many improvements to greens and bunkers and a lot more interesting than before. That being said, despite the improvements, it is still a fairly boring flat track. In the past I would have rated this as 2 stars, now 3.

Portarlington is a bit of a mixed bag. There are moments when you think you're on the sandbelt and then moments when you think you're at Burnley public. Tee shots on 10 and 12 are fantastic uphill shots with a nest of sandbelt bunkers protecting the corner of the doglegs. The par 3 5th is a great hole and the line of pine trees down the right hand side of the par 5 6th is nice. But the area to the west of the clubhouse is a bit average. The course was in good nick and I wasn't unhappy to play it but I don't feel the need to go back.

If you're down this way, make sure you have a hit at Portarlington. Played here early morning just after New Years and I was amazed at the layout of this place! Apart from the numerous divot marks in the greens (probably due to the holiday patronage) and the safety fences around a few of the tees that don't look great but are needed (being picky) this is a great track. Fairways were in fantastic nick and well maintained, nice length for all abilities and some excellent visual holes. Main thing I liked were some magnificent short par 4's (12, 13, q 16) and the bunkering which is straight out of the sandbelt book of design, especially on the back nine. Friendly bloke in the pro shop too, so it's fair to say I had a great time!!

Good course overall, with gradual improvements over the last few years. Is becoming one of the better courses on the Bellarine peninsula. Still needs to improve in a couple of areas such as the bunkers. Other than that is always a pleasure to play.

i think the course is great. if you hit a bad shot your still in the game. when i played ther the tee offs where basicly dirt and the 14th green had tyre marks. my fav hole would have to be the 17th i love the pin place-ment and the green is fantatic.
