From time to time you get the chance to play a country track that leaves you so pleasantly surprised, leaving you wondering why the hell you hadn't played there before. Lucindale is one of these golf courses. As mentioned in other reviews, Lucindale meanders it's way thru some gently undulating, sandy hills about 4km from the small township. The fairways have an excellent cover of couch grass, the course is well-treed with natives & some large pines, the greens are a medium pace, but very true, with very lush couch grass surrounds and well-place bunkers. The conditioning of the course really surprised me, it's apparent the lone greenkeeper (and volunteers) take great pride in the course. All of the bunkers have razor-sharp edging which is normally the dead giveaway for the amount of pride and care that the staff take. I was lucky enough to play with two local members, a father & son, who were very friendly. After playing this course, I would rank it above Millicent and Naracoorte as the second best course in the South-East of SA (after Mt Gambier-Attamurra, which is the best). It's also a better course than Horsham (post-fire course). Plonk this course in Adelaide and people would be paying over $1500 per year to join up. Lucindale is out of the way, but most definitely worth the drive. It's a must play.

Measures 5942m Par 72 with three par 3s ranging from 131-185m, twelve par 4s ranging from 314-402m and three par 5s ranging from 449-464m. Course has quite lush couch fairways with rye patches over the couch with areas of clover grass. The bent grass greens are a good size and speed with some well defined rye grass rough surrounding the greens. The tree-lined layout has a few gentle hills with mostly gentle dogleg holes. With only 6 entirely bunkerless holes there are 17 bunkers on the course. Highlights include: the 357m dogleg right 2nd (index 2) with 2 shortside bunkers; the 314m short 4th (index 16) which doglegs 90 degrees right from 180m off the tee with 2 rightside bunkers; the 363m dogleg right 7th (index 4) with a left-sloping fairway to a 30m long and narrow 2-tier front-sloping bunkerless green; the 402m Par 4 straight but uphill 11th (index 1) with a greenside bunker short left; and the 185m 12th (index 5) with a bunker 20m short right and another bunker greenside on the left. Despite an overkill of par 4s there is more variety off the tee with doglegs and bunkering on the front nine when compared with the back nine. Overall, I was impressed with the course conditioning including the greens and its surrounds. A feature at Lucindale is the gentle doglegs with 12 flags not even visible from the tee mounds. More bunkers on the front nine but a similar length and challenge than nearby Naracoorte. Lucindale is a small town of around 700 people with over 1100 people in the district and is about 30 minutes west of Naracoorte. Course access is 4km east along Country Club Road from the town centre. Played here on 5th October 2011 with $20 green fees with steady light rain during my round. As mentioned the Country Club offers good facilities other than golf. One of the better conditioned and challenging layouts in the state's south-east. I highly recommend a round on this course.

Played in the Lucindale Open 2010 delightful and enegising course layout. Gum Trees alongside fairways make cutting corners and missing the fairways a challenge. Worth taking the risk though if you want. Greens played true with some entertaining borrows especially some down hill putts towards bunkers! Had been solid rain for 4-5 hours before play commenced and there was no excess water on the course which made the day pleasant.
