Time for an update on this 9-holer as the course conditioning is a real disappointment and its layout is unnecessarily hilly and unchallenging. And this course is not even close to the same style or conditioning than at Gawler. Established in 1933 Nairne now measures 2403m Par 34 (IN and OUT) with two par 3s ranging from 120-156m and seven par 4s ranging from 247-381m. A slight change in the layout since the previous 2010 review here has resulted in NO par 5s here now. There are 9 tiny grass greens and 9 small tee mounds. The course condition is quite disappointing with patchy and bumpy poa grass greens with clover grass weeds on the greens taking over as the main grass type. The tee mounds are patchy and dirt ridden with clover grass coverage. The 1st & 4th teebeds are shared as are the 3rd & 6th teebeds. There are no bunkers on the course. 1st-381m is probably the most challenging hole on the course with an elevated tee at the clubhouse well above the fairway which slopes right to the OOB Princes Highway to a 10m long x 5m wide narrow green which is not visible from the tee. 2nd-330m is a straight hole played uphill over a crest 250m off the tee with the green not visible from the tee. 3rd-253m is a straight hole played uphill to the side of the clubhouse with the green visible from the tee. 4th-156m is played from an elevated tee at the clubhouse to a tiny green which is about 20m below the tee with a steep embankment on the right side of the green. 5th-270m is a slight bend right hole and is played slightly uphill to a crest about 170m off the tee to a tiny 8m x 8m green which is not visible from the tee mound. 6th-247m is a slight bend left hole and played slightly uphill to the green which is at the rear of the clubhouse and not visible from the tee mound. 7th-120m is a downhill hole with the green about 10m below the tee with a pond 15m over the rear of the green. 8th-329m is a straight hole played over a small crest near the tee to a fairway which slopes downhill to the green with the OOB Sydney Road far right. There are small red-staked ponds to the right of the green which is not visible from the tee mound. 9th-317m is another straight hole played uphill over the access driveway roadway to another small green which is visible from the tee mound. Played here 11/10/2012 with $10 green fees. Given its course location approximately 360-380m above sea level in the Adelaide Hills the course can become quite chilly in the cooler months. Course access is about 8km east of the Mount Barker town centre at the corner of Sydney Road and Allon Place. Clubhouse can be reached on (08) 8388 6399 at 7 Allon Place only on weekends. Course conditioning here is quite ordinary and I'd recommend a round at nearby Mount Barker-Harndorf than to play here.
