Found just off the freeway to Mt Barker, Mt Osmond has spectacular views of Adelaide from all around the course. Played in the Tuesday (22/12/15) comp for only $40 as a member's guest.

Greens and tee blocks are in great condition, fairways have the occasional bare patch but mainly very good. Plenty of bunkers of varying condition all situated in tricky positions. Starting with index 2, then a long tight par three, then index 1 can wreck a score straight off so bring your A game right from the start. Many holes are tight off the tee, especially off the back tees, and with sloping fairways, an accurate rather than long game is required until after a few rounds. Plenty of tough hill climbs to walk, so take a cart if you struggle. Better to enjoy the scenery, which includes a couple of dams and the aforementioned views. Enjoy a post round coldie in the stately old clubhouse. A worthwhile experience.

Time for an update on this private course which was established in 1927Mount Osmond measures 5619m Par 70 with five par 3s ranging from 127-169m, ten par 4s ranging from 275-393m and three par 5s ranging from 420-472m. Course has kikuyu grass fairways interspersed in a pine tree / eucalypt tree-lined parkland style layout. The fairways are a little bare and dry in places but the Santa Ana couch grass teebeds are fairly lush and flat. The medium-sized SR10-19/SR11-19 dominant bent grass greens are reasonably quick and smooth. In terms of hazards, apart from the opening unbunkered 2 holes, every other hole is bunkered with a total of 50 bunkers on the course. There are 2 ponds with 1 small pond beside the 4th green and 1 large storage dam which captures 100% of the course's bore water used for irrigation. FRONT NINE highlights include: the 393m slight bend left 3rd (index 1) which is course's most bunkered hole with a teeshot of 220m off the tee required to reach the top of the crest with 4 fairway bunkers before and at the crest off the tee to a green with 2 bunkers; the 161m 4th (index 12) with the longest green on the course at about 30m in length being slightly below the tee with 3 bunkers and a red-staked pond about 2m short of the green; the signature 275m 7th (index 15) which doglegs 45 degrees left from 180m off the tee, with 2 fairway bunkers at the dogleg corner where the fairway runs out from 200m off the tee to rough, with OOB along the entire leftside from the tee to 2m off the left edge of the green with a back right bunker play an iron off the tee and you'll score well; the 342m 8th (index 5) which doglegs 45 degrees right from 200m off the tee with the large red-staked concrete embanked dam along the right, with a fairway bunker left at the dogleg left corner to a green which is slightly raised above the fairway guarded by 3 bunkers; and the 359m slight bend left 9th (index 4) with the OOB fence along the entire leftside to a 2-tier left sloping 30m wide green with 2 bunkers 20m short left and right. There are some great views over Adelaide from the 1st green, along the 7th hole, at the 8th & 10th tees and the 9th green. The front nine is slightly more varied than the back nine with a few more challenging holes. BACK NINE highlights include: the 378m slight bend right 10th (index 3) with 2 fairway bunkers left & right off the tee to a green with a bunker short right; and the 127m 16th (index 17) with the 30m wide green being slightly below the tee and guarded by 2 bunkers short leftside. Course elevation ranges from approximately 350m above sea level to 385m above sea level. Mount Osmond is a suburb of around 3000 people in the Adelaide Hills approximately 380m above sea level with the peak itself being located on the golf course grounds. Course access is from Mount Osmond Road about 9km south-east of the Adelaide CBD. Interesting layout with many undulating fairways sloping off to either OOB homes or roads. Played here 8th October 2012 off the back plates with $44 member's guest green fees at this course which is for members and their guests. Non-members can play for $55 green fees but require introduction from the General Manager.

Mt Osmond, where Sir Don’s name is etched into club history, is a picturesque private course which overlooks the city of Adelaide and beyond. Being 15min from the city and on the fringe of the Adelaide Hills it oozes serenity and provides escape from city living. It consists of a range of challenging holes, suiting those golfers who can shape the ball in both directions and possess (at times) the imagination of a mountain goat. The course is moderately treed and bunkered, providing plenty of trouble if you got out on the wrong side of the bed. Personally, holes which stand out are the Par 4 7th, Par 4 8th, Par 3 16th and the Par 5 18th. My favourite, however, is the Par 4 7th: Playing from an elevated tee and a dog leg left you face two equally nerve-tingling decisions to cover the 260m required. Either play safe for the fairway with out-of-bounds left and water right or depending on your faith in the titanium big boy, have a go at the green without the risk of water. When you reach the green, hopefully with the same ball, some slick putts await. When you have putted out do take time to look down over Adelaide and its surrounds (as far as the Yorke Peninsula on a clear day- impressive). Mt Osmond is a pleasure to play… If it was good enough for Sir Don it’s certainly good enough for me.
