Played here today for the first time. What a green, lush oasis in the heart of Summer! It is a great looking course, with beautiful tree-lined fairways & rolling hills & dog-legs, particularly on the front 9. I did struggle to come to terms with the fact that there was no run at all, due to the lush conditions & consequently kept coming up short on most shots. That's more of a problem with my brain than a problem with the course! Good value for money & a very pleasant experience. A real surprise package!

Very nice layout, pure in summer, struggles with flooding in winter

Played in mid January 2013. Course is in fantastic condition in my opinion. A real gem tucked away in the Adelaide Hills. Green fees are great - $20 for the day. We played on a reasonably hot day, but being in the Adelaide Hills it wasn't bad at all. Fairways are in great condition, but the greens had been cored the day that we played, so I can't really comment fairly. I thought the course layout whilst being short, was still challenging - especially the tall trees which needed to be avoided. Personally I did find it strange to finish on a couple of par 3s, but overall I found it great and will be back.

Opened as a 9-hole course (the current back nine holes 10-18), Echunga expanded to open as a full-length 18-hole Par 70 layout in 1995. Course now measures 5497m Par 70 with four par 3s ranging from 127-183m, twelve par 4s ranging from 269-381m and two par 5s ranging from 436-490m. Course has a mixture of common rye / kikuyu and Santa Ana couch grass fairways and teebeds. The course has small-sized seaside bent grass greens which are mostly 10-15m long x 8-12m wide and play a little slow. In terms of hazards, there are 3 bunkers on the course at holes 3, 7 & 13. There are 7 small bunker-sized water hazards, a yellow-staked channel and 3 storage dams/ponds coming into play on holes 1, 2, 8, 9, 13, 15 & 16. The layout is fairly flat and tree-lined but the fairways are wide enough to navigate a decent scorenine holes (1-9) are played on the clubhouse (or northern side) of Dolman Road and nine holes (10-18) are played over the road (towards the Echunga Oval). Highlights include: the opening 381m straight 1st (index 1) with a red-staked pond left 200-240m off the tee with OOB Dolman Road far left with another red-stake pond 10m right of the 15m long x 10m wide bunkerless green; the 127m 2nd (index 17) which plays gently uphill to a green with a red-stake pond 1m over the back right edge of the green; the 315m slight bend left 3rd (index 9) with a blind teeshot over a small crest near the tee with OOB far left with a tree in the middle of the fairway about 60m short of the green which is guarded by a bunker right; the 342m 8th (index 7) doglegs 45 degrees right from 180m off the tee with a red-staked pond in the left rough from 180-230m off the tree to a 12m long x 12m wide bunkerless green; and the driveable 291m straight 13th (index 6) which plays gently downhill with a yellow-staked channel crossing the fairway 250m off the tee to a 25m wide x 10m long green with a bunker short leftside. The par 4s are quite short by today's standards with no Par 4 hole being greater than 380m in length. The par 3s (at 2, 7, 17 & 18) have smaller greens than most other holes and are unbunkered. The par 5s (at 6 & 14) could not be more unlike: both are varied in length but not in its strategy with the pick being the 490m sweeping dogleg left 6th (index 3). The front nine is more varied and challenging than the shorter back nine here. The finishing 4 holes here are quite weak with two short par 4s followed by two par 3s with 10m long x 10m wide bunkerless greens. The front nine is set on mildly undulating land with small bunker-sized red-staked ponds near the greens being the main feature, whilst, the back nine, which was the original 9, is much flatter and shorter. Located in the Adelaide Hills about 8km south of Harndorf, the course elevation is approximately 360-380m above sea level. Course access is from the corner of Dolman Road and Harndorf Road (B34). The course uses bore water, stormwater run-off and town effluent water to irrigate the course. Played here 15/10/2012 with a $15 Monday & Tuesday green fees and $20 Wednesday-Sunday green fees. Not a bad course but could be challenging if there were bunkers

Not sure what GOLFNUT99 is talking about as holes 1 and 9 are by no means easy, in fact the first hole is rated as index 1 on the card. As such i thought i would add my own review. Echunga is a nice little country track with a laid back atmosphere. The course isn't overly long or difficult, but the combination of narrow tree lined fairways, small greens, a variety of dog legs and at times penal rough can make it a tough test. The front nine is the newer nine and is a bit longer, and has a few elevation changes, unlike the original nine which is shorter and flatter. This course doesn't pretend to be anything more than a good country course and is all the better for it. Whilst it has well watered fairways and greens and a few bunkers and water hazards its main strength is the layout which combines narrow fairways, various layups off tees, risk reward holes and dog legs that require you to move the ball both ways, resulting in a course that requires every shot in the book. Green fees are always really well priced too, highly recommended.

echunga is a challenging golf course, the front 9 is a challenging nine, the first hole is the second easiest on the front 9 its straight a away par 4 with challenges between 150 to 100 metre mark. the second hole is a par 3 that is accessable from the front half of the green avoid over hitting the green at all costs as there are hazards waiting. the next 4 holes are the hardest ones to play on accuracy a must on these holes, and hole 9 is the easiest on the front it plays the same as hole 1. the back nine is the easy half you cant go wrong on this nine, there are plenty of par 4s one par 5 and two par 3 the back 9 are simple easy holes that will allow the big hitter to open up on the back 9.
