I played this course last summer and it was a typical fine, hot
day on the Tablelands. The course was getting pretty dry being
near the end of summer, but the occasional storms mean there is
still greenery about and the overall conditioning was fine.
The course is a par 72 (36 36) layout with ACR 70. It’s an
open country parkland style course with mainly a line or two of
eucalypts bordering each fairway so not much difficulty. Only a
few hazards dotted about the 18 holes, so a fairly easy scoring
course. No real standout holes.
$25 green fees seem a little steep for a country course but given
the attention to course conditioning, not unreasonable. Also,
given the proximity to Cairns where everything is inflated due to
the tourist market (especially the green fees) it’s fine.
If I’m staying in or passing through Mareeba again
I’d happily play here again.
Being the only eighteen hole course on the Atherton Tableland
makes this course a must on any tableland visit.
The course is open and relatively flat but a challenge to all
players. The greenstaff here do a fantastic job and the clubhouse
has full facilities.
There are wild kangaroos on the course and prolific wildlife.
An enjoyable course in a cool tropical climate within an hour of
Cairns International Airport.
Considering the annual rainfall on the tablelands, the locals
must be wondering where the next decent fall is. Unfortunately
the fairways were nearly as dry as home in the Central Highlands.
Combined with a flat, back and forth layout, and no hidden
perils, the dry meant plenty of run and only lots of gum trees
and kangaroos to negotiate.
This 20odd handicapper had a shocker but still managed a halfway
respectable score. Having fairways to either side of most holes
encouraged getting out the big fella and having a lash.

Course lacks thought in planning and options off the tee. Some
holes are short and most greens are bunkerless.

Played here 26/7/06 and paid $25 green fees on this flat and
slightly boring layout. Probably more the social and beginners.
i played this course a couple of times on a recent holiday to
mareeba to see my brother. with the unsociable hours i play(love
me 5am tee offs!) i went solo and would have loved someone to
rave about it to. my 2 year old son is always up then so ill take
him next time! beautifully green, simple layout, for someone like
me who hovers around the 100-mark it was a treat. i hit an 86 on
the second day! there are tons of kangaroos but they tend to
congregate so only in the way on one or two holes. the key is to
bring your straight game with you. you'll get the course to
yourself if you go early, just remember the honesty box to pay
green fees! only hazard here is the pre-programming of the
watering of greens, you'll be lining up a putt and all of a
sudden youll get a cannon of water squirt at you! i look forward
to me next trip up north! JohnnyD
