Good local public course. Had the full experience, had a snake come down a cart path towards me between 3rd and 4th!! All part of the FNQ experience. Good quality greens, fairways and tees patchy but on the whole enjoyed the day out. Some quirky holes like 5 which played 9 iron and then sand wedge for me today which is unusual for a par 4.

You can pretty much leave the driver at home. The course requires local knowledge to decide what to hit from the tee and to where. Then it becomes quite easy but the first timer will drop shots quite easily. I played early january 2013 after a long dry spell and the greens had been allowed to get a little long for survival reaons. The fairways were dusty and certainly needed preferred lies. A few holes have trees left in strang places - like the middle of the fairway.

Half Moon Bay is a dog of a course. At $55 it is well over priced and this was during the week following their Championships. I found no redeeming features. during the trip I played 4 courses and paid only a little more money to play Sea Temple twice (links but slooooow greens), Paradise Palms twice (slowish greens) but both were golf courses. HMB is a goat track that someone decided to play golf on. Even Cairns golf club at the same price is twice the course with some hole playing like a golf course should and with some nice scenery (especially on the second nine).

First round at HMBCGC, all i can say, is what an excellent course, a few tricky holes and some helpful hints from the friendly locals certainly helped. Greens were in good condition as were the fairways. I enjoyed playing this course and will be playing again soon, having a better understanding of the course now and hopefully it will help to go lower. Friendly staff at the proshop. a pleasure to play

A really wonderful course. Price-performance ratio is excellent. The course is well maintained with a lot of water and a beautiful environment. A nice pro-shop with very friendly staff.

We would not recommend this course as there are too many holes where you have no idea where to go. The 5th is a very badly designed golf hole, a blind tee shot, then a green tucked away, surrounded by OOB. If you play safe and end up about 120-130 metres out you still can't see the green or the OOB, so you have no idea what has happened to your ball. Overall the course is quite short for Men, Par 70 but rating 67. For Ladies most of the holes use the same tee blocks, so a little longer with Par 71 and rating 69. The course also seems to be laid out improperly, there are a number of holes where you have to walk past other holes to get to the next tee. Green fees were $25 (reduced from $35 as the greens had just been cored). The fairways were not in great condition and the tee blocks were dry, hard and uneven. A few up and down places, but it is a reasonable course to walk, so a cart is not required if you are of average fitness. Overall we would suggest that Cairns GC is a much better course for similar money and, if you don't mind the cost so is Paradise Palms. We certainly wouldn't go back here again.
