Played this great little country course last week and was very impressed. The greens have all been changed to "328" and the condition considering the cold winter was superb. The fairways have also improved with good coverage tee to green. The signature hole would have to be the 15th, a long par 5 with water along half of the fairway on the left,an interesting chip over a small canal to an elevated green while trying to avoid the left and right hand bunkers. With a very reasonable green fee and friendly pro shop staff I recommend giving this course a try if you are visiting the Southern Downs

Warwick Golf Club is your typical country style course with an up and back layout, medium sized greens and tall gums lining the wide fairways. The course is quite flat and fairly easy to walk a round in under 3 hours. It's a reasonably lengthy par 69 track with a few par 4's around 400m and a couple of par 3's where a long iron is required to reach the putting surface. The most interesting hole is the downhill par 5 15th measuring 523m. A tee shot to the left half of the fairway is required to avoid an almost blind second shot with a large dam guarding the left hand side of the right bending fairway. A small pond sits to the right of the green punishing any misguided approach shots. Centrally located on the Darling Downs and 2 hours from Brisbane, Warwick would be a nice addition to your next country golfing weekend getaway. $25 for 18 holes.

What a nice course, bunkers are awesome and looking green surprisingly! Greens were abit slow but only one downside! Pretty tough to get yourself off the bogey trail as I found my self go round the front nine in 8 over 42, but found the back nine much more forgiving when I came home in 1 under 34. Found the Par 5, 18 a nice hole to close with as it is a good scoring hole, fairway, green, two put birdie! Will try to be back!

Warwick is about 1.5 hrs SW of Brisbane. The course is pretty easy to find. Follows the signs or get a town map. The facilites upon arrival are adequate. Nice little club house and seperate pro shop. The people are very friendly and make you feel welcome. A round of 18 during the week will cost $16, a golf cart for the same is $28. Pretty standard and affordable for this type of course.

The course itself is set atop of a very small hill, with the holes undulating up, down and around the hill itself. Dont worry, its not a hard walk. Most the tee of area's are reasonable and easy to find. Some are elevated giving you an attacking view of the hole. Most of the holes are lined with many large established Ozzy trees. Drive straight or you are in trouble, like the very narrow firts 100m on the par 5 no: 2 and 15 holes. The fairways are for most striaght and wide, with only a few slight doglegs, minimal undualtion and nil hazards. The fairways are very dry and hard and you should get plenty of run on your ball. I found that for most, the greens were abit here and there. Some greens ran fast, other were slow. Some were huge, others small. Most were of a sound standard with some a bit patchy and in need of water. The 18th par 5, which plays upto the overlooking clubhouse and slightly in a grandstand manner, was really small and slightly disappointing. It was in good condition, but for a final hole, it was lacking in that "wow" factor. The greens are pretty challenging, particially on the par 3's. Tough hole layout, with water hazards, large trees and deep large bunkers on the par 3's make them very challenging to play. This is true on the 11, 13 and 16th holes. Stray shots are punished.

The amenities on the course, like ball cleaners, seats, hole guides were ok but basic. The aesthetics of the course, on some occasions, were truely Ozzy and even wonderful. Walking down the slight slope of the 15th hole, looking across a plainland with rolling mountians and hills in the backround, skyward gums surrounding me, scattered clouds with sun light beaming through making contrasting shadows across the land, with several sulphur crested cockatoo's calling to my left and with about 1000's galah's meters above me, dancing across the sky from left to right and not a single other noise to be heard, I recall I thought to myself, life and golf is good. I sound almost deep and meaniful, but aren't we suppose to relax and enjoy things.

Overall, the course is fairly dry and in need of some rain and a little TLC. However, it is still a nice country course. The price is right, the people were nice, the views beautiful and as I type this, it occurred to me. The par 5 and 3's of this course is what makes it. Most the par 4's were ok, even a little unremarkable, but the 5's and mainly the par 3 is what makes this course challenging and worthy of playing. I WILL BE BACK, one day
