Millmerran’s par 72 9 hole course measures just over 5600m and sits on the edge of town with a rural setting surrounded by quiet farm paddocks. Back Creek winds itself through the course and comes into play on most of the holes. It’s a real feature on the par 5 4th/13th where it cuts across the fairway 250m from the tee and on the double dogleg par 5 6th/15th where it sits on the left at a driving distance and further up the right side of the fairway. Both par 5s are reachable in two good shots but these water hazards can turn a possible birdie opportunity into a double pretty quick. The 332m 9th/18th is a good finish to the round with the creek again cutting across the fairway at about the 240m mark. Longer hitters ideally should take a medium iron off the tee and leave a wedge into the final green with water and a lazy tree to clear. The course is in great condition with receptive greens and well irrigated fairways which makes Millmerrran one of the better 9 hole courses on the Darling Downs. $15 for 18 holes.
I recently took a trip out to Millmerran (to visit family) and
finally got to play this course, which Iíve wanted to for a
Itís a 9-hole course, which when played from different tees,
plays as an 18-hole. (I only had time to play nine though). Even
during one of the driest periods in history, thanks to a creek
and local grey-water, the Fairways are wonderfully green and all
the greens are in wonderful shape. In fact, this courseís
fairways are better than some of the Brisbane courseís
Thereís a little bit of water around the course, with the
creek crossing two holes, the 9th and 4th, and lingers at the
back of the 7th. There a small dam on the right of the 7th, which
I also managed to find. The course has its challenges, with the
6th (par 5) dogleg to the right, requiring a good straight drive
off the tee, otherwise if you come up short, youíll be
forced to use a shorter iron to get around the dogleg.
I really enjoyed this course, the club staff and locals are very
friendly (as youíd expect in any country town); so stay for
a couple of beers afterwards.
