Located a few minutes from town, Blackbutt’s 9 hole par 71 course sits on a gentle hill with a fairly open layout, a couple of water hazards and four sand traps. The soft greens have subtle break and are quite receptive to approaches. In fact, six of the greens lie within 10m of the OOB boundary fence so accuracy is a must. Some interesting holes include the short par 5 4th (13th a long par 4) with a left bending fairway and a green sitting beyond a dam with a large gum protecting the front left of the putting surface and 129m par 3 5th/14th with a large gum encroaching the right side of the tee shot and OOB just 5 metres from the left edge of the green. The overall condition of the course is quite reasonable for a small rural track with mostly decent lies throughout and soft kikuyu surrounding the greens. The quiet rural surrounds make for a relaxing round of golf that is on par with the other 9 hole courses in the South Burnett Region. Green fees are $20 for 18 holes.

After last playing on this course back in 1990 when they had square (that's right, square) synthetic grass greens it was a great pleasure to play this much improved course in September. The greens were the slickest I have played on and very difficult to read with subtle breaks around every pin placement. Local knowledge is definitely needed around this course with only the lack of water holding it back from being a great course.

This is my local course, I'll try not to be biased, but I like it :) It is run by the members themselves, whom love their golf. The greens are now in great condition and are often complimented on by visitors. We are visited regularily by other clubs and are part of a vibrant network in the area. Each hole exploits the 'warped' landscape to keep you playing thoughtful accurate strokes. You need to read the fairways as much as the greens! 2 or 3 fairways close to greens do get patchy in places and may cause the odd scream.

This course is without date a 1 star. Not the locals fault, it never rains there! You will play off dirt and post times you will put on dirt. Enough said.
