Gold Coast
Southport Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 71
5778 M

Southport Golf Club is an easy walking course with tree lined fairways and strategically placed water catchment areas. The course starts with a reasonable par 5 and most golfers meander through the first nine holes comfortably. The back nine is where games are won or lost with "amen" corner commencing with the par 3, 14th hole. This is where Southport has held itself together in tight pennant matches.

The greens are 328 couch with green leas park couch fairways. The trees on the course are varied as are the birds and wildlife. Water dragons can be seen sunning themselves on the banks of the water catchment areas and members have their favourite turtles, which come up to be fed. This all leads to a comfortable day for golf and a chat with friends and guests.

Golf course looked a treat when you arrive. Had a fair bit of rain week prior so fairways and rough fairly soft under foot. Might explain the real "thick" rough and fairways that don't allow the ball to run on. Greens were nice, not much to them.

The team at Southport were very kind to find space for me amongst their members day. The course is a picture and as others have noted, a welcome change from the Resort Courses. A strategic course played harder than most of the resort courses I have played but the true strength of this club is the members who were welcoming and friendly. If you have the opportunity to play here it's well worth your time.

Southport Golf Club, hhhhmmm Best $30 round of golf on The Gold Coast you'll find. The course is not long plenty of sub 350m Par 4s, it is a thinking players golf course, sure you can step up and blast away off the tee, but you'll be in more trouble than the Bandidos motor cycle club. This course is more about you setting up for your second shot, you've got to find the fairway off the tee here, Not many difficult holes and even though you see a lot of water it really isn't in play except for 2-3 holes but easily avoided if you hit the appropriate club off the tee. Fairways were pretty good, not resort quality but above average none he less, I'd play it again in a heart beat. Nothing negative at all about the course, has a country course feel to it hard to believe your in the middle of a city. If the course was closer to home and membership was a bit cheaper I'd probably join it.

Played today with the ISG guys. This is a suburban members course and made a nice change from resort style courses that are all over the Gold Coast. Condition of the facilities was generally good, I liked the clubhouse which had an old charm with a lot of wooden fixtures etc and old photos of days gone by. The layout makes you think as there are a number of short par 4's where an iron and then wedge is a better option than driver, you need to be straight off the tee as there are a lot of trees lining the fairways. The greens had been cored 4-6 weeks ago and were a bit furry. If you get a chance to play it is well worth it.

Played Southport today. Impressed with overall presentation. Short course but requires strategic thought, especially on tight and well designed back nine. Back nine is the highlight of the course. The greens are fantastic! Best I have played on the Coast. Roll fast and very true. Overall, impressed with the course. More could be done to raise standard of fairways.

Southport Golf Club is a little gem of a golf course. Its situated only 5 minutes from Surfers Paradise. Although the course is not long (par 71),importance has to be placed in every tee shot as the all fairways are tree lined. The par 3's are beautiful and inspiring. Its a traditional style club and has a great big clubhouse that overlooks the 18th Fairway. The cost is very reasonable. There is a driving range and the staff are all very accomodating.
