COURSE DETAILS

The Willows Golf Club, home of the Queensland Masters and Townsville’s only International Resort Course.

The Australian golfing legend, Norman von Nida, at the conclusion of the recently conducted Queensland Masters tournament predicted, " if The Willows continues its rate of development it will challenge Lakelands on the Gold Coast as the best course in Queensland." (THE GOLFER, August 2003).

The benefit to members and guests at The Willows stems from the fact that they can play on a course that is considered to be of the highest standard, without having to outlay the fees and prices that courses of such standard normally command. In playing a round of golf at The Willows you will be challenged. Serious golfers can be challenged to test themselves in comparison with top line professionals, who, incidentally, averaged in excess of par in the Queensland Masters, while social golfers will be challenged to complete their round without becoming completely distracted by the vast range of wild life that abounds within the golf course.

Walked 18 holes, for $40 was really disappointed. Had played here 12 months ago and the course was much better. The fairways were great but the greens and bunkers are terrible. It seems nobody can repair pitch marks! The bunkers are like concrete making it impossible for us mere mortals. I can understand why no-one rakes the sand , it wouldn't make a difference. It's a shame as its a well designed course just needs some love.

This is a great course. Not for the faint hearted, there is lots of water around the course, so you need to be fairly straight. The fairways were in excellent condition and the greens were also great. It is a relatively flat course so can be walked, however there are a number of holes where the walk from the green to the next tee is lengthy, so be prepared to walk a bit extra. Green fees of $40 are very reasonable for the quality you get and it is certainly in better condition than Townsville or Rowes Bay. It is also a better layout. One minor concern is that the course is up for sale at the moment, so you just wonder if the maintenance will continue to be kept at the level it currently is.

Willows has recovered well after the effects of Yasi. As Golferman stated it was a slow process but full credit to the greenskeeping staff for renewing it to it's former glory.I hadn't personally realised what a good job they've done until playing Paradise Palms that has a bigger budget and it's poor form. A course that moreso asks for accuracy rather than length. Every hole has many options for you to approach the hole making it a challenge in course management and your game on the day.

Poor Willows is feeling the affects of being hit by cyclone Yasi. Plenty of trees down, branches on the ground, waterlogged bunkers and fairways. What a shame. I'm sure it was lovely.

It's the wet season "shaynesnow", and it's been an early start this year. It's always going to be wet at this time of year. I agree, they could pump some of the bunkers out. But there's not much you can do when you frequently receive 100mm + in the space of 24 hours.

Nice course, short but distance is balanced by tight fairways and placement of bunkers and water. Some fairways were in very poor condition like the 18th which had large puddles of mud and the bunkers were unplayable. Some bunkers had over a foot of water and cane toad tadpoles, was waiting for a croc to come out and get me, very poor course management. Nice course to play and would play again but try to avoid the bunkers.
