Central Queensland
Rockhampton Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 72
6173 M

The Rockhampton Golf Course is located in Central Queenslands’ tropical climate. The course is well designed and maintained, which is perfect for players who are wanting to test their skills against a premier course.

There are 3 long par 5’s on this course, unless the wind is helping substantially most golfers would need 3 shot to hit the dancefloor.

1st hole is 537 metres, 5th is 538, and 16th (index 1, double dogleg right) is 536 metres. The par 5 10th (438 metres) is the only relief, with a good drive it’s possible to hit a mid iron to the green. A mixture of hole lengths on the par 4’s, from 285 metres on 17th, 298 metre 8th (big dogleg & driveable for the big hitters, to the 380 metre 15th (index 2, OB right, into the prevailing breeze!), and the 391 metre 3rd (almost always into the wind).

The par 3’s are a bit friendlier, 2nd is 127 metres, 7th 206 metres, 11th 167 metres, and unusually, the 164 metre par 3 18th to finish.

Course is in amazing condition given the drought. Fairways are well covered and greens very good. Provides a challenge for the better player however social players can still have fun. The 17th is a real risk / reward hole!! Warm welcome at the pro shop. Highly recommended.

This is a good course and definitely deserves a visit from any keen golfer. It's a good old fashioned members club on a good piece of land with a stunning finish next to the lagoon and plenty of changes in elevation on the way around. It is also not over designed with a million bunkers but the bunkers they have are well placed and encourage good shots. They have a great collection of par 3's with a short uphill one to a small two tiered green, a monster at 200m uphill to a gently sloping green that you can run the ball onto and 2 mid length par 3's to greens that sit above the fairway. The last 3 holes could all go on a postcard with the large lagoon dominating the scenery in the background. I'd happily go back for another game if I'm in the area again.

A solid challenging course, plenty of Doglegs,Water and O.B areas to punish wayward shots.

Bigger hitters will find this course quite abit easier, always seems to be in pretty good condition all year round.

Rockhampton Golf Club can be tricky to find and is located on the western edge of the city beside the botanical gardens and the domestic airport. The course is one of the longest in the district and measures over 6100m with three par 5s over 530m and two par 4s over 380m. Fairways are well irrigated and are reasonably wide with impeccable greens running fast and smooth.  Holes of note include the right dogleg 296m par 4 8th with water right and a retaining wall surrounding the right edge of the green, the 328m par 4 13th which plays uphill with two large figs encroaching the fairway 50m from the green and the 542m par 5 16th (index 1) which plays beside Murrays Lagoon and potentially into a stiff south-easterly wind. The finishing hole is a 163m par 3 with water looming right and two bunkers guarding this elevated final green. The overall condition of this course is fantastic and an interesting layout makes it a must play when visiting Australia’s beef capital. $30 for 18 holes.

This is a reasonable country course, a bit hilly, but can be walked. The layout is reasonable and fairly easy to follow. The fairways were in good condition with a good coverage of grass. The greens were good and a reasonable pace, certainly a bit quicker than they look. There is a reasonable amount of water coming into play so you need to be straight to stay in play. We played on a Wednesday, Ladies day, but had no problems getting on or getting around. We had a cart and it took us 3 hours to play. The green fees are $25 so good value for what is presented. If you take a cart it is an extra $30. Well worth a game if you are in Rockhampton.

I have played many courses throughout Australia and when it comes to a challenging enjoyable friendly golf course, you will be hard pressed to beat Rockhampton. I played the course last week and its in impeccable condition. The members are friendly and welcoming, and you need to be playing well to beat your handicap on this course. If you are travelling through Rockhampton and looking for a game, then make sure you stop by Rockhampton. Getting a game in the Saturday comp is easy, and members will make you feel welcome.
