Set on the edge of town beside the Barcoo River, Isisford’s 18 hole par 72 sand green track consists of mostly wide open fairways, numerous dirt mounds and a few testing holes with OOB well in play. Interesting holes on the front nine include the left dogleg 314m par 4 3rd with a hazard cutting across the fairway, the 372m par 4 4th with OOB running down the left edge of the fairway and the scenic 101m par 3 5th with a large gum and dirt mound hiding the putting surface as well as OOB and a dry hazard punishing anything sprayed left or right. The back nine is a bit more open with the longest par 3 on the course at 188m and three par 5s in a four hole stretch that average 490m. The 17th has the toughest tee shot on the course with great reward if you can navigate over or around the looming native trees on this reachable par 5. Probably the real challenge golfing at Isisford is being aware of the several sneaky crows that lurk throughout the course and happily steal golf balls! Particularly on the holes where mounds and trees can block a view of the green, it is important to quickly locate your ball as you’ll be shocked if you’ve hit an iron inside 10 feet and when you arrive at the green your ball has disappeared! This all adds to the nature and different aspects you can expect at outback golf courses and a round at Isisford is a good option for the many winter travelers that take advantage of the free camping spots on the banks of the Barcoo.
