Blackall Golf Club is a shortish par 72 layout that measures just over 5700m and plays its way beside the Landsborough Highway and over and around the Barcoo River. This is the real feature here with water courses looming on about half the holes as well as attracting plenty of kangaroos and even a few geese enjoying the peaceful surrounds. The four hardest holes all play out on the front nine which include a couple of 200m par 3s with water in play, the 354m par 4 3rd with a tough tee shot and OOB hazard scrub bordering the right side of the fairway and the 4th which is the most interesting par 5 in the region. Measuring just 405m, this par 5 is a genuine 3 shotter with careful navigation required around tall river gums, over water and OOB down the left of the hole must be given full attention. Highlights on the back nine include the short par 4 10th with water to carry 175m from the best tee box in the district and the clubhouse verandah looking on; the 277m par 4 13th with OOB surrounding three sides of the putting surface and the picturesque 140m par 3 17th with tall trees to clear and the Barcoo to avoid one last time. The club hosted the 2017 Men’s State Sand Green Championships and the full time council maintenance of the course keeps the grass tee boxes and sand greens in top condition. This great course presentation and an interesting layout is the real standout here making Blackall Golf Club the best course in the Central West. The weekly competition hits off at around noon on Sundays and a round of golf at this top rate outback track is $5.
