The Augusta National of the Bush. The condition was poor but these little country towns do well to keep going given the drought & few golfers. The layout would have to be one of the best 9 hole tracks in the country. So many fun shots on this course. The short par 4 3rd from a super elevated tee. I could have pinged balls at the green all day. The 5th that doglegs left knowing that a draw will send the ball hurtling an extra 50m towards the green. But the best hole is the dogleg right 7th with the fairway rising from the tee to a crest about 220m and then descending to a green that seems to levitate against the backdrop. It's a small green and anything not on line feeds away from it. If it was closer to the city and  well grassed you would have to line up to get a game. Only the die hard golf architecture buffs would understand why

Decent enough course however quite hilly in places. The fairways aren't well defined (no scorecard in the honour box so I needed to guess). Greens are okay except for a couple which need work. Cost of $15 for 9 holes ($20 play all day) is too much.

Monto Golf Club is set in quaint, undulating bush surrounds and is ideal for social golfers. The layout is quite forgiving in parts with wide fairways, only a couple of small water hazards and one lone bunker guarding the 8th green. The opening par 5 and lengthy 2nd are the only straight holes on the course with all others offering slight doglegs both left and right. The condition of the course is reasonable but expect a few rough lies and some of the greens are a little damaged. The most interesting hole was probably the left dogleg par 4 5th requiring a well measured tee shot to reach the green in regulation. The only disappointment was only one set of tees for a nine hole course. It's nice to change things up slightly on the back nine and on some holes could've really altered the angle of the hole. Overall, Monto boasts quite an interesting layout and the natural undulation and peaceful countryside make for an enjoyable round of golf. Well worth a hit if you're in the region. $15 for 18 holes.
