Having not been out Rosewood way for quite a few years, I was
looking forward to the so-called challenge of the
"graveyard" golf course they call Rosewood GC. However
I was extremely disapointed in the overall condition of the
course. It is very very very dry with zero fairways available to
80% of the holes. I also found in difficult ona few holes to
actually find the pin from the tee on quite a few holes. I lost 3
balls during my outing, and you would not believe where I lost
them … "In the Fairway". I hit them straight down
the guts, and the balls either fell down the massive cracks in
the faiways or were camoflauged in the hard dirt or dead grass. I
also found myself using my older SW for most iron shots as I did
not want to ruin my WilsonStaff CI7’s on the fairways. If
you want to play on this course during it current state, you must
hit very long and straight with a shot iron approach to the pin.
The greens are very very slow also, but I like them that way. If
your willing to drive out there, drink a few beers and pay the 15
bucks for a hit and giggle, by all means go. But if your use to
the better Brisbane GC’s, this must be avoided. On another
sour note, the course convenors have changed the course lay out
recently (I think from memory) and I find most chanegd
un-playable. Please don’t hate me, I’m just being
My first experience at this course, once I found it, not well
signed. Tee off was early morning. At this time, you MUST have
mossie spray until about 8am. The first surprise was the cost,
$12 all day play. This is great.. The next factor is the course
playability. The course has a few water hazards and next to no
bunkers. It is a flat course with numerous trees. Fairways are
reasonable, amoungst a few gravel, dirt and rocky areas. Greens
are pretty simple, however slow. Play straight and you will do
very well. Aesthetically, it is JUST ok with not much to look at.
Amenities, such as seats, drinking fountains, pro shop, carparks
are very very basic. Overall, it was an ok course to play and
would most likely suit the average golfer who just wants an easy
round with some mates.
The Rosewood Golf Course can be divided into 2 separate
Challenges as the front nine is well established and heavily tree
lined whilst the new back nine is much more open yet challenging.
It is vitally important that you stay on the fairway especially
on the front nine or you will be playing catch up/recovery shots
The proís nicknamed the course ìThe Graveyardî as
they paid the price of any stray shots.
Greens are in proportion to the fairways and provide adequate
target yet some pin placements can be very challenging. Depending
on the season green speed varies between medium and slow yet have
the distinct habit of quickening in the early afternoon.
Rosewood has unique challenges similar to other Brisbane Valley
courses however after the game you will appreciate why this club
turns out well skilled Juniors as you have to be prepared to
manufacture shots if you wish to shoot a low score.
This is a very easy course to walk and has adequate water and
seating if required
Having just played at rosewood i would say it is a challenge
worthy of any good golfer, hit a good shot, and be rewarded,
stray and be punished. I play off 7 currently, and i managed a 6+
score. What has been said about the back nine being a little more
open doesent make it any easier, having shot a 2 over front, and
a 4 over back. The greens are nice to hit into, but are however a
little grainy to put on, slick with the grain, but slow against,
making putting very challenging, a putt that would go 6 foot past
one way pulls up a foot short in reverse. The course is well
presented however, and the lack of bunkers and water does not
make this an easy course to play. I would give this course an
8/10, and the groundstaff 11/10 with how the course is in these
dry conditions. If you are ever out that way, it is well worth a
stop in, friendly people, nice surroundings, challenging layout,
great golfing day
