The 18 hole Murray course carves its way through red gum forests and sandy river flats where numerous lakes and lagoons are ready to swallow the errant shot. The course is certainly one of the most popular on the Murray and with good reason. The natural bush and river setting and the spectacular course design make the round of golf one you will remember for a long time.

The Murray course was designed by Peter Thomson / Mike Wolveridge. "The opening four holes of this 6,085 metre design lead you to the north bank of the Murray River, where the rump of the 5th tee nudges the river itself. The 470 meter hole wanders along the banks of our mightiest river amid a Tom Roberts’ landscape of haughty gums. Another hole that sticks vividly in the memory is the 184 metre 13th, a straightaway hole but with a large pond stretching most of the left side of the fairway and which can cause some tentativeness with club selection."

The Lake course is open yet demanding. The course is designed to test the player when they play their approach to the green. While the fairways are wide the shot to the green requires precision for the player to obtain the best chance to make par.

Today I headed up to the mighty Murray to play the famous 45 hole @yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club.

There are two 18 hole courses, the lake and river course along with a 9 hole executive course

I joined 3 members, Terry, David and Rob on the championship 18 holes Lakes course

3 absolute gents and we had a great day in beautiful comditions

The comp today was stableford off the white tees and things were going great until wiping the 16th hole after the ball literally de laminated off my tee shot.

My driving was decent, second shots in costing me a few shots and three putted a couple of times

I ended up with a very respectable 33 points

The lake course has a 128 slope rating which is about bang on.

With wide beautiful tree lined fairway, getting off the tee is easy enough.

It’s the second shot into the greens that requires careful shot selection as some of the greens are narrow in size and well protected all round with decent sized bunkers

The carpet lined fairways and well trimmed first cut are a joy to play from

The greens are decent in size but on a number of occasions found myself short sided going over a bunker with a lob wedge, with the greens pretty quick here getting the chilling right is a must.

The Lakes main defence are the elevated greens, well guarded with some deep

bunkers.

There is water around the course but nothing that gets you too worries.

The golf course has been well designed and is not the sort of golf course to give you nightmares.

It’s not a long long golf course, the par 3s are straight forward.

The par 4s mostly achievable in regulation for your mid range handicappers.

Just an all round enjoyable golf course to play.

The staff in the pro shop are friendly, thanks to Evan for looking after me.

I was introduced to my partners out on the putting green which I love.

The proshop is huge and has all the golf apparel you would wish for.

I was amazed at the size of the club house, huge with cafe, bar and restaurant.

Plenty going on.

Cost of a round here $54 inc comp fee, very good value for such a quality golf course

Next time I’m back I will play the river course to compare

Lake
Played Murray and Lake courses June 2016, it was wet but both courses held up extremely well. I preferred the Lake course but the Murray course is very good as well. The staff in the Pro shop were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the units on course for three nights and loved it. Great facilities with good dining and bar area. They even have a movie theatre similar to gold class.

Played Tues 23/06. Wide fairways, huge greens, and longer than brother Murray. The dams and lakes are pretty but don't come into play unless you are way off course. Putting surfaces are fast. Fairway grass carpet like. Links like at times then one or two neat challenges. Bunkers are awkward and could do with more (or softer) sand. When visiting allow for enough time for both courses. My slight preference went to the Murray. Great clubhouse with good food and fully stocked pro shop. The Relic.

Murray
Played Sat 20/06. An excellent, interesting and challenging course. Huge, fast greens are true but don't over putt, near misses can slide past a couple of metres. They are soft enough to hold yet firm. Fairways always provide a good lie even in mid winter. Bunkers take a little getting used to, with only a light cover of sand (dirt?) over a hard base. The many trees along the Murray add to rather than detract from the whole package. Cheap for a resort course , especially with reciprocal. Caters for the tourist so spots in the comps can be hard to get. All the amenities expected with resorts - accommodation, bars, restaurants and large pro shop. Everyone involved, playing partners, staff and visitors were sociable and willing to help. Put it on your to do list. The Relic.

Played the easier Exec 9 holes last wed . Found the fairways in very poor condition and some of the greens had been recently cored . IMO the course was unfit for play and should have been closed . I realize it gets a lot of traffic but at $28 it was well "over the odds"
