Time for an updatemeasures 5920m Par 72 with five par 3s ranging from 133-193m, eight par 4s ranging from 295-390m and five par 5s ranging from 444-518m. Course has a mostly short tree-lined fairway layout with a few holes having medium sized tree-lined fairways with kikuyu grass fairways which was only lush in areas around the sprinkler heads which had distances on them to the centre of the green, but elsewhere the kikuyu fairways were thinly covered with yellow patches. The bent grass greens had been cored recently so I could not expand on their speed. There are now only 2 bunkers on the course guarding the leftside of the 133m 11th (index 18) green. Highlights include: the 374m 5th (index 2) which doglegs 60 degrees to the left from 210m off the tee with OOB on the dogleg corner; the 141m slightly downhill 6th (index 17) to a 2-tier front sloping green; the 478m straight 9th (index 10) with a pond snaking along the leftside from 40-115m short left of the green; the 193m 13th (index 7) and the 390m slight dogleg left 17th (index 1) with pine trees on the dogleg corner and OOB Tongs Street far left and a small pond 5-25m short right from the front edge of the 30m long bunkerless green. On the longer holes there are 4 straight holes (1st, 4th, 7th and 9th) with 6 dogleg left holes (2nd, 5th, 8th, 10th, 16th & 17th) and 3 slight dogleg right holes (12th, 14th & 15th). Finley is a Riverina town of around 2200 people at the junction of the Newell and Riverina Highways about 20km north of Tocumwal, 22km west of Berrigan, 35km (or 20 minutes) south of Jerilderie and 60km east of Deniliquin. The course is accessed from Tongs Street off the Newell Highway on the southern edge of town. The club should consider swapping the outward and inward nines as the 478m straight 9th (index 10) with water is a much stronger finishing hole the weak 133m bunkerless 18th (index 15) made even easier with an elevated tee mound. Played here 3rd September 2011 with $20 green fees which is good value, but not as good condition and not as challenging as Deniliquin, nearly on par with Berrigan's layout and conditioning and definitely better than the course conditioning of Jerilderie's track.

The course consists of kikuyu fairways, grass greens and mature trees lining the fairways. The course is irrigated and playable all year round. The fairways are reasonably wide and you are assured of a good lie. There are a few water hazards and only 3 bunkers. Unlike it's cousins on the Murray the course is relatively flat and easy to traverse (great for the weary traveller who just wants to unwind with a hit). The condition of the course is fantastic when you take in to account the size of the town that supports it. Well worth a stop over on the way to Melbourne or Sydney.

The leader of the opposition chose this course on our trip rather than one of the more well known courses on the Murray.

And I'm glad she did.

Coming from the drought of C.Q. the greenery made me green with envy. For a small country town it was a case of work hard with what you've got and Finley has achieved.Friendly, affordable(sounds like a B & B) and worth the visit.
