This is a good layout, however due to the weather extremes the fairways were hard and quite bare. It was difficult to determine when the fairway finished and the rough started. They had preferred lies on the fairways and to determine this you measured 2 club lengths from the tree line. The greens and surrounds are good with water from the nearby river available for them. In fact the greens are the highlight, not too many humps and bumps, a little slow but rolled exceptionally well. We played in the medley Wednesday comp and the Members were very friendly and welcoming. The combined green fee and comp fee was good value at $22 and, given the lack of nearby alternatives, is a reasonable proposition if you need a hit. The course is a bit hilly but can be walked quite comfortably.

Measures 6021m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 133-220m, ten par 4s ranging from 290-389m and four par 5s ranging from 443-491m. Greens on the front nine were significantly slower than the back nine. Overall the greens were a little slow with little break. Fairways have thin grass coverage and teebeds were bare in patches with some having a synthetic grass mat option. The back nine is a little more challenging and better course conditioning than the front nine. The course has gentle slopes and no significant hills to climb. There are a few gentle doglegs with wide fairways and sparsely tree-lined fairways. There are no bunkers on the front nine and 5 bunkers on the back nine. Losing balls here is hard. Highlights here include the signature 178m 11th with a teeshot over a dam to a bunkerless green - more picturesque than challenging. The 369m 12th (rated the hardest) has a slight dogleg right with a natural creek cutting across the fairway about 220-240m off the tee. The 353m 13th has a slightly narrower driving area as the fairway gently slopes left to a green guarded by a bunker short left. The 133m 17th has a tee slightly above the green which is guarded by a leftside and rightside bunker. The 316m 18th has fairway which slopes to the right where position is important as 2 large trees impede a shot to the 2 tiered green from the right with a tiered green sloping the front guarded by a bunker short right - so hit a mid-iron a little left off the tee to open up the green. Played here 26/11/2010 with a member of 30 years at Cooma who said the course has not looked any better. I am told in summer or in drier times the course plays hard, dusty with terrible lies on either the fairways or rough. Visitor green fees are $20 and the course is located 6km out of town on the way to Jindabyne. Having played all grass green courses in the area I feel Thredbo's 9-holer is probably the most challenging and best conditioned course in the region.

Cooma is a typical country course set in scenic surrounds. There are many interesting and challenging holes, although bunkers and water are rare. The greens are generally quite small, but in good condition. The fairways are in relatively good condition considering how dry the surrounding countryside is currently.

Cooma GC is a nice 6000m course with a variety of holes to enjoy. It is very rarely crowded. Many long par 4s with dog legs and some challenge for the longer driver. The course is suffering badly from the on going drought so the fareways are suffering but greens still in excellent condition. The course undulates nicely and is forgiving with wide fairways tree lined. A couple of creeks and dams are evident but not too much water left. Only saw a few bunkers. Very friendly typical county feel. If you arrive early the pro shop may not be always open so bring your own clubs to ensure a start.
