Roseville Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 64
4595 M

Established in 1923, Roseville Golf Club has a rich past, a vibrant present, and an even brighter future.

Roseville Golf Club is widely regarded as one of the friendliest and most attractive private golf clubs on the North Shore, Sydney.

This is due to the beautifully manicured and challenging 18-hole course, which winds through the top of an ancient sandstone escarpment.

Roseville is set amongst native bushland, overlooking valleys and creeks from Garigal National Park and Sydney’s famous Middle Harbour.

Time for an update on the out-of-date 2003 and 2010 reviews on this interesting, short but private layout on Sydney's north shore There have been quite a few changes at Roseville which now measures 4840m Par 66 with eight par 3s ranging from 132-219m, eight par 4s ranging from 256-427m and two par 5s ranging from 450-494m. I agree that Roseville is one of the better shorter length and private layouts on Sydney's north shore which has 3 other private clubs (Avondale, Killara, Pymble) and a number of short public courses: Par 64s at North Turramurra & Northbridge; and, Par 65s at Chatswood and Gordon. Roseville has kikuyu grass fairways with a rather distinct short Par 30front nine and a regular length Par 36back nine layout set on the northern side of the ridge/clubhouse. The 20-30m long medium-large sized mixture of Penncross/Crenshaw bentgrass and poa greens are smooth with excellent consistency of speed. The teebeds are mostly a mixture of Grand Prix/Santa Ana couch grass with only one worn-out looking kikuyu grass teebed at 7. The 5th is the only bunkerless hole with a total of 49 bunkers on the course: 14 bunkers OUT and 35 bunkers IN. FRONT NINE highlights include: the 219m long par 3 downhill 2nd (index 2) with a bunker short left; the 343m slight bend left 7th (index 3) with an iron off the tee required to avoid the red-staked steep bank along the leftside with an elevated green above the fairway guarded by a bunker 10m short right; and the 182m uphill 9th (index 8) with a bunker right. The front nine has 4 consecutive par 3s and despite being significantly shorter and less bunkered than the back nine it does pose a reasonable challenge to hit your iron shots onto the par 3 greens. Holes 2-5 are somewhat attractive set amongst the homes surrounding some greens and tees. BACK NINE highlights include: the signature 193m slightly uphill 12th (index 4) with a teeshot over the storage dam to a green with 4 bunkers; the 256m 13th (index 14) with a straight but blind iron teeshot over a crest to a fairway which runs out 170m off the tee to mulch and low scrub vegetation to a wide but shallow green guarded by a bunker shortside and long by thickly vegetated red-staked steep rock shelf drop 2m over the green; the 427m long par 4 14th (index 1) which doglegs 60 degrees right from 220m off the tee with red-stakes along the entire rightside to a green with 3 bunkers; and the 450m slight bend right 18th (index 10) which is the most bunkered hole on the course with 3 fairway bunkers off the tee to a green with another 6 bunkers shortside and long near the green. Roseville can be described as having more of a rock-based rather than clay-based layout which in the past 5 years has new holes at 8 & 12-16, which is mostly due to the large storage dam reshaping its layout design. With 5 out of eight par 4s less than 320m in length the layout can be unquestionably tamed by lower markers. Course elevation ranges from approximately 60m above sea level at the lowest point along the 2nd green and 3rd hole to approximately 100m above sea level along the 18th hole and clubhouse. There is also the luxury of having a spare par 3 hole with 2 bunkers beside along the 13th green and 16th fairway. Established in 1923 Roseville is now one of the north shore's private courses. Sydney's north shore boasts EIGHT 18-hole golf courses with 4 being exclusively private (Avondale, Killara, Pymble, Roseville) and the other 4 allowing social players on most occasions (Chatswood, Gordon, North Turramurra, Northbridge). I guess the only slightly off way to finish your round is the Warringah Road traffic noise along the 18th fairway. Otherwise, great use of terrain and land to have a Par 66 course layout. Played here on 27/7/2012 off the back plates at this exclusive golf course which is for members and their guests. For a private course it does not particularly have great practice facilities or even great winter course conditioning, but the clubhouse and terrace are modern and has great northern views of the course. Just joined as a 'non-playing' member for $165 for the year. Non-playing member sounds like an oxymoron but it simply means a) they don't keep your handicap b) you can't play in competition unless as a guest of a full member c) you pay $40 green fees for a round This is perfect for me as I have two small children so 6 hours each Saturday to play competitive golf is not an option and I am a bit tired of the poor quality 9 holers on the lower north shore of Sydney. Roseville is currently par 64 (30 out, 34 in) and I have only played the back nine once is light drizzle. It is a fully private course so conditions are better than the typical public track and tee time availability is excellent. There are major works ongoing to add new holes, lengthen existing holes and resurface the older grees and the back 9 will be par 36 by the end of the year. They also now have a large dam and are able to irrigate whenever the like so the course is very green and lush. Course availability for non-playing members is after 3pm on the weekends, Tuesdays and Thursdays, after lunch on Mondays and Fridays, and all day Wednesday.
