St Hallett Open Days @ OGC

First thing you should know about this event is that we have some fantastic prizes on offer, including 1 dozen PRO V1's for those who can crack 36 points. The winners of the overall and graded events will also be invited back to compete in our Champion of Champions even in late December. The second thing you should about this event is that the team set the course up to ensure that we don't give away any golf balls; it is tough but fair, and expect to see some interesting pin positions and some that will drive you crazy! The cost for this event is $55 (presently running a $35 Special Rate up until October 1st) for your visitor fee and a $15 competition fee.

I played an open comp last Tuesday at Oatlands for just $30. The weather was good and the course in good nick. Some of the greens had been over watered and there were pools of water effecting the line of some putts which was very disappointing. The tees were a bit forward but you'd expect that in a midweek comp. For a course that is so expensive to be a member of, I couldn't believe there was a comp for $30 when their monthly Friday Open comp is $60. I was even more surprised when I saw the field size......8 players. What the hell is going on there? Anyway, if you like playing Open Days on a Tuesday, you should take the chance to play this course as I reckon the $30 is a temporary situation. You'd better bring some friends though or you might not get a game!

When arriving at Oatlands for the friday open comp i was impressed by the whole atmosphere of the course and culbhouse. It seems a large amount of time and effort has gone into the landscaping and clubhouse facilities with the NSW Ladies Open coming in the next week or so. The course itself is immaculately presented. Tee boxes to fairways to greens and bunkers are all international standard. The layout was enjoyable with the green side bunkering and course conditioning the highlight. Large Eucalypt lined fairways, blind tee shots over fairways crests and beautifully manicured gardens await. Accuracy over distance is emphasized here, just the way i like it. Highly recommended!

There must be something good in the water at Oatlands. Every single member that I've met while playing there has been super nice (to the point where you start to wonder if its a cult). The course itself is very pretty and well maintained and the pro is very helpful. Not sure why they feel they need to put Tim Websters mug on the website though.

Played Oatlands last week with the temperature in the low 30's. The shortish nature of some of the par 4's in particular require accuracy rather than brute force and this makes the course different to a lot of newer tracks. Found the kikuyu grass easy to hit off but the relative slowness of the greens for a Victorian took some adjustment. The course was in very good condition and the hilly nature of the course tosses up all sorts of stance problems to be answered. Some of the par 3's were good although I agree that the 18th is a fairly weak hole to finish on.

Over rated. All the new renovations and additions have clearly taken up a lot of the course staff's time as the rest of the course and around the greens remains very patchy and uncut. A bit more time and money keeping the place up to A-Grade standard would be an idea, rather than putting all your resources in to keeping the low markers in check. All the changes seem like they will make it impossible for all the older players with high handicaps which Oatlands have a high percentage of. A couple of good par 3's - and maybe only 2-3 other holes which are of any enjoyment

I have watched all of the recent course redevelopments at Oatlands with great interest and must conclude that the course has become a top metropolitan golf course.

The recently redeveloped 2nd hole is the highlight for me, a formidable 209 metre par three that generally plays into the breeze is a real jewel in the crown! Other holes that have always impressed me at Oatlands are the 6th, 14th and 15th – to my mind the 15th is among Sydney’s best Par 5’s.

Golf aside, there is always a good feel in Oatlands – there is no hint of snobbery attached with other Sydney clubs and the staff in both the clubhouse and pro-shop are very helpful and courteous. It is no wonder that Oatlands will play host to the NSW Ladies Open for the coming years!
