Beautiful golf course but ridiculous greens.
Testing lay-out which has recently under gone some design changes
new holes, new fairway bunkers. Greens are slick and alway take
double the break you think it will.
"doglegs are so close to the tee that cutting the corner becomes
the normal line for moderate to big hiitters" that's what they
are for to think your way thru the hole with course management.
Shoot your handicap first go around Monash you should be happy.
Just hosted the national teams titles.
Great condition, great location, lots of moderate only holes,
greens can be close to unplayably quick
A good test of golf from tee to green, however once you get to
the green thats when it all changes.
The greens in winter would be as fast and subtle as any in
Stand over a putt, think it will go left to right and it goes and
goes and goes right...
Takes alot of judgement and guts to get the ball in the hole
because of the greens.
In some ways it is unfair to the average golfer who expects to
hit the ball into a green and stop it there only to see it roll
off or into a bunker !!!
Private course and well worth the game if you can get on
I have played Monash a number of times over the last 10 years. It
is a good Sydney course but has some steep and challenging
terrain, forcing some design compromises which detract from the
layout. Sidehill lies are common on the perimeter of the course
and some doglegs are so close to the tee that cutting the corner
becomes the normal line for moderate to big hiitters. The quality
of the greens is a bit of a lottery. They can be firm and fast if
the weather has been kind but sometimes seem to suffer from a
lack of attention. One highlight is the view from the balcony of
the clubhouse, high on a hill overlooking 4 or 5 holes and the
ocean. Don't pass up a hit at Monash, but there are better
designed and maintained courses in Sydney
Some of the quickest and toughest greens Ive played on in Sydney
let alone South East Asia. Although the fairways are not overly
tight a missed shot off the fairways will likely lead to a loss
ball in the thick bushes or drink. (Just a warning Ive spotted
red-bellies in the bushes there so make sure youre alert when
searching). Quality course and sensational greens if youre lucky
to be invited to play.
