With only 9 Greens this course is enjoyable to play considering
that there is no full time green staff.
The greens are in good nick and generally are small with some of
the larger ones being a challenge to putt on.
With 18 tees the course is difficult to score well on... in
particular the 6th/15th, a par 4 the first time and a 5 the
second. A large dam protects the green which also slopes away
from your approach, making a close shot to the pin very
The par 4 3rd/12th requires a blind shot over a hill to a green
protected on both sides by large gum trees. The undulating
surface of the green makes putting extremely difficult.
Overall, the course is not long but don't be fooled by this.
It can be difficult to gain access to this course unless you are
accompanied by a member as it is security patrolled because it is
a Defence establishment.
Played here at Orchard Hills GC (formerly known as RAAF Kingswood
GC) on Saturday 11/3/06 and played off white mens markers and it
measured Par 70 5344 metre course. 2635m going out and 2709
metres coming in with six Par 3s, eight Par 4s, and four Par 5s.
Firstly, it has 9 HOLES and 18 tees, positioned around 50 metres
or so from each other. I played two balls, one for the front nine
and one for the back nine and finished in 2 hours (beats playing
front nine then walking around again from for the back nine, when
tees are quite close to each other).
A very basic short game course with a boring hilly layout that
has its blind greens, with most of the holes either running
down/up a hill. No full time staff on course so expect slow and
bumpy, pitch-mark ridden greens and thinly covered fairways.
Hazards include water (1st/10th, 5th/14th, 6th/15th). Cost is
quite reasonable. $10 for 9 holes 7 days a week.
But should note that you need to call the proshop (02) 4736 1266
one day before your intended tee-off to be on the list for
security clearance on the Commonwealth Defence land. Not
challenging, but hope to see it get up to the standard of the
Royal Aust. Engineers GC at Moorebank, sometime soon.
