The Concord Golf Club, Tom Doak Redesign Official Course Launch Open Day

As one of Sydney’s premier golf clubs, Concord ranked within the Top 50 Australian Golf Course, and has always been a desirable venue for golfing fanatics who enjoy playing a premium course in immaculate conditions.

Established in 1899 the course has recently undergone a significant upgrade under the watchful eye of internationally recognised course architect Tom Doak and his Renaissance Golf Design team from Traverse City MI, USA.

Tom Doak is one of the world's leading course architects who has designed highly regarded courses at Ballyneal (USA), Pacific Dunes (USA) Cape Kidnappers (NZ), Barnbougle Dunes (Tasmania, Australia) all of which are in the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses.

The upgrade works involved the complete rebuilding and shaping of all 18 greens, reconstruction of bunkers and rerouting of some holes and fairways.

Concord Golf Club is the only private Member’s Golf Club in the inner west of Sydney and is a hidden gem, which has been notoriously hard to access without a Member’s introduction. As Sydney’s only Tom Doak / Renaissance designed course this is a unique is opportunity to experience the redesigned Concord Golf Course and experience the challenging layout with challenging greens and tournament level playing conditions set up for the official opening. You won’t be disappointed.

Played this course over the weekend as a guest in their Saturday competition. The fairways & rough are super dry currently due to the lack of rain in Sydney. The greens & greenside bunkers are still in great conditions and I would say really enjoyed hitting my approach shots in all day. Tom Doak has done a great job making these holes visually appealing on the eye. I hope to play this course again when a bit of water hits Sydney.

Had a chance to see the changes Tom Doak has made & Concord looks far superior to what it was previously. Lots of trees were cleared, bunkers & greens were re-done. There's more options with shots around the green especially. Look for the course to become a mainstay inside's Australia's top 50.

Probably the best parkland course in sydney. Great conditioning, particularly seeing the traffic it gets. Unusual combination of Kikyu fairways, couch tees and green aprons, plus bent greens. Fluffy white sand. The course itself has some great holes, which generally favour a fade. In places it seems to want to copy augusta national with the creeks, flashed sand bunkers and gardens. Enjoyed it very much and look forward to playing there again. If liverpool golf club had more money to spend on conditioning it might give it a run for its money.

Don't know how you can fault Concord GC. From arrival, with the beautiful clubhouse, and the massive proshop and friendly staff, then on to the massive putting green, makes you happy by the time you get to the 1st or 10th tee (we started from the 10th). The fairways are in amazing condition as i have come used to every time i have come as a visitor! the greens are slick, and bunkers fluffy! Love the 9th and 18th holes, and throw in the par 3 16th.

Concord is a very well conditioned course, but I must admit that I expected a lot more given its reputation. I very much enjoyed the dogleg short par 4 13th hole and the picturesque par 4 6th hole. The par 4 10th hole is very unusual and looks more like two par 3s joined together, and quite few other holes were simply "stock". If this is indeed regarded as Sydney's 5th best course, then there is a tremendous gap between 4th and 5th, because this course is nowhere near the quality on offer at NSW GC, The Lakes etc. Worth a visit, but in my humble opinion ultimately it failed to excite or be a particularly enjoyable experience. There are many other better private courses in Sydney to enjoy.

Measures 6185m Par 71 with four par 3s ranging from 141-205m, eleven par 4s ranging from 296-419m and three par 5s ranging from 476-520m. The course has 69 bunkers and has a medium-tall tree-lined parkland style layout revered by most clubs in Australia. Concord GC is rated #43 in Australia and #5 in Sydney - behind only NSW, the Australian, Royal Sydney and The Lakes (Australian Golf Digest March 2010). The only course in Sydney's top 5 with kikuyu grass fairways as the others mentioned above have couch fairways. Course conditioning is superb with beautiful lush flat couch teebeds and smooth, quick undulating greens. Highlights here include: the 372m 3rd (index 3) dogleg right with lateral hazard alogn the right to a green guarded by 3 bunkers short right and a bunker left. The 520m 5th (index 9) dogleg right with bunkers on the corner with OOB right to a green guarded by 4 bunkers. The 385m straight 6th (index 2) with a fairway crest and bunker about 240m from the tee to a bunkerless green which slopes sharply to the right with a creek collecting anything right of the green. The 361m 8th (index 13) with a creek across the fairway in front of the green guarded by 2 bunkers. The 379m 10th (inde 6) doglegs 60 degrees right with fairway bunkers leftside and tall thick vegetation along the right with your second shot playing downhill to green guarded by 4 bunkers. The 419m straight 12th (index 7) is the only bunnkerless hole but has large heavily-grassed swales short of the green. The 405m slight uphill 17th (index 4) has 2 fairway bunkers to negotiate with a large dam on the right to a green guarded by 2 bunkers. The 387m 18th (index 1) plays slightly uphill to a green guarded by 3 bunkers. Played here a few times now and can guarantee you will enjoy a round here! They have open days once a year around either the end of December or early January to keep an eye out for. Great course and very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend a round here!
