Established in 1954 Nowra measures 5166m Par 68 with five par 3s ranging from 101-202m, twelve par 4s ranging from 289-408m and the 495m sweeping dogleg left 14th (index 8) which plays slightly uphill with a bunker 20m short right and OOB 5m left of the small green. The 2nd, 3rd 8th, 9th, 11th & 18th have 2m x 2m rubber/synthetic tee mats to play off as the tees are in the cave-like rock outcrops. These are not ideal playing surfaces, as the gap between the rubber tile mats are not deep enough to have the option to play driver as your tee becomes too high to hit driver of these surfaces. These rubber/synthetic tee mats are not covered, so you could only imagine how they are like when wet! Course has mostly short tree-lined fairways with quite lush kikuyu grass fairways and rough. The small-to-medium sized bent grass greens are fairly slow and flat. There are 20 bunkers on the course with most of them of the back nine. Apart from the climbs to the above-mentioned tees, the course is flat and easy to walk. Highlights include: the 141m 4th (index 10) with the Shoalhaven River OOB on your left near the 30m long green guarded by 2 bunkers; the 307m slight bend left 10th (index 14) with a pond 5-20m short left of the green also guarded by a bunker short right; then the most bunkered green on the course--the 170m slightly downhill teeshot 12th (index 6) with 3 bunkers to a small and narrow green; the signature 408m long Par 4 slight bend right 15th (index 1) with the OOB road on the right to a green with 2 shortside bunkers; the 153m 16th (index 13) with 2 shortside bunkers and a 3m high rock outcrop about halfway along the 30m length of the green on the left; and the longest par 3 on the course--the 202m 17th (index 3) with a slightly elevated tee above the 20m long green guarded by a bunker short right. The course's best attributes are its varied par 3s, as there are too many short similar par 4s, and apart from the 361m 6th (index 2) and the signature Par 4 road hole, no par 4 is longer than 340m. The layout is short and odd with many holes radiating out/in to the clubhouse. The front nine has mostly unbunkered short par 4s with small slow greens. Every green is bunkered on the back nine which is far more challenging and memorable than the front nine. Remembering that 1 star denotes "basic golf facilities" and 5 stars denotes "golf at its absolute best" on this website, I feel Nowra is nowhere near a 5-star rating. Played here 26/12/11 with $25 weekday green fees and $35 weekend green fees with twilight golf fees $15 after 3pm (AEDT). Having played Shoalhaven Heads before coming here, I feel both Nowra's courses are nowhere near the challenges and course conditioning on offer at Shoalhaven Heads. Sure, the course will be challenging for those less frequent or easily pleased golfers out there, but having played all NSW south coast layouts, this course layout is not even top 10 on the NSW south coast. For the serious golfers, I recommend instead of golfing in the Nowra urban area, drive 20 minutes to Shoalhaven Heads and you will find one of the better layouts and challenges on the NSW south coast.

A really great course, wonderful lay out that hugs the Shoalhaven River. Pro shop staff are friendly and very helpful, club house needs some work, bar staff gave us a great time; highly recommended for a round and a few beers after.

Agree with thechopper. Found greens quite difficult and what you gain in quickly reaching the greens are lost on them. Great to drop in, gets crowded at weekend, very relaxed dress code. Proshop very helpful. Value for money.

As member of Nowra Golf Club I would like to introduce you to the prettiest course on the N.S.W South Coast. The course is not exceptionally long, however there are such things as raised greens, quite a few trees and smallish greens. There are five par 3s, the 17th being 202 metres index 3 for men, par 4 for women. The shortest par 3, hole 8, is interesting as the tee is one one side of a hill and the green is on the other side but only 100 metres bewteen. Next is the 9th, which looks out of what seems to be a cave towards the club house and the river Shoalhaven, with the fairway below. The only par 5 is the 14th a slight dogleg left after the second shot to a tight green with OB close to the left edge. Followed by 15, a par four 410 metres, locally know as the "Road Hole" and is index 1. The par 3 16th has be the signature hole. There are golf carts available. The 19th hole is well appointed with meals and refresments available. Also of interest is that most Tuesdays there is a Vets Comp, for both men and women, shotgun start either 0830 or 0900, best to phone.

Played 12/10/05

Really enjoyed playing here and the imagination that has gone into the course.

Squeezed between the river and the hills, about a third of the tees are up in the cliffs, nestled in among the greenery and the boulders! Hit off a driving range type mat from way up and watch as your ball sails out onto the very neat fairway. I actually asked the leader of the opposition to take a photo of a Qld hacker teeing off in a cave!

Greens are true and though the course is not long it's tricky. About four or five greens surround the clubhouse, great for regular pit stops.

Very enjoyable course(played O.K. too so that helps)Hire a cart and relax.Three and a half if I could.

A very nice country golf course.

Not long, not too tough but with enough interesting holes to make it an enjoyable day.

Hitting out of the caves in unique and well worth experiencing

Well worth a game if you down that way..
