Port Stephens
Pacific Dunes Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 72
6403 M

Pacific Dunes' outward nine is interwoven among natural lakes and wetlands, while the back nine meanders through shady Angophoras and Swamp Mahogany trees.

You can't blame the wind on an off day because the layout has no predominant hole orientation.

Carefully placed hazards, reduced potential for water carries and multiple teeing options coupled with generous fairway widths make it a course with varying degrees of difficulty for every level of golfer.

The course, incorporating a driving range and a practice green, features premium santa ana fairways and bent grass greens.

The clubhouse, designed by Philip Cox, offers panoramic views of the course and surrounding bushland.

Played it last week and generally enjoyed it but found it far too penal off the fairway. Rightfully deserves its place among Australia's top 100 courses but could be better if there was at least a slim chance to be able to attempt a recovery shot after a wayward drive. Some great holes though and a particularly interesting double green at the 1st and 5th holes.

The course was great. A real challenge for high handicappers, but not too frustrating. It was disappointing though to be told when we arrived that they had no record of our booking and; "We do not take pre-paid bookings!" Luckily I had the receipt on my Hotmail and they honoured it straight away, but initially I was reasonably upset at this. Cannot inderstand why they were so adamant that they did not take pre-paid bookings at the outset. A poor start to what was a great day.

Played this course just recently as we couldnt play our home course and although the fairways were a little dry the course overall was in fantastic condition. The staff were helpful and very easy to deal with. We will definitely be back again. thanks to Kurt for an enjoyable day

We had the misfortune of playing here 13-Dec A Social Club was on the course- playing as a group of eight on some holes- refusing to allow faster groups thru.Further most were 'non-golfers' spraying balls everywhere together with ample consumption of alcohol. There were no Course Marshalls to police their alleged 'No consumption of alcohol on the course'policy +max groups of four. Complaints fell on deaf ears- obviously only interested in the revenue generated- will not be back-better value elsewhere

Pacific Dunes is a first class resort golf course that offers a true golfing test. The water on this course is the real feature and with little course knowledge it can catch you out even after a descent shot. The front nine has water on just two holes but the rest have thick scrub lining the fairways where golf balls can be impossible to retrieve. The back nine has water in play on every hole and on 13 and 18 runs the entire right hand side from tee to green. The putting greens can be tricky to judge with subtle break and some daunting slopes offering up the odd 3 or 4 putt. Expect to lose a few balls and see your score ascend quicker than normal. This course is challenging but a real pleasure to play. $65 for 18 holes including a cart is superb value and hard to beat in the surrounding district.
