COURSE DETAILS

A superb 27 hole Championship Course, widely acclaimed as the "The Bush Course By The Sea".

Bounded by Tomaree National Park, this sand-based course in a tree-lined tranquil setting is not only a test of golf, but also a perfect escape to nature, with kangaroos, wallabies, native birds and goannas, a common sight on the course.

The fact that this is a sand-based course means that it’s seldom closed or affected by wet weather. Good access to irrigation provides lush green fairways all year round.

Prepare for your game on the practice fairway, in the driving nets and on the putting green.

We played the social nine holes (19-27) which were previously not up to the standard of the championship 1-18. We found these nine holes just as challenging and interesting as the other parts of the course. The fairways have much improved over recent years. The fairway bunkers are at the A grade length so it keeps them honest. The greens were true and well grassed.

A reasonable golf course that appears to have tried to fit 27 holes onto a property that should only have 18.

The greens were woeful. I think there was 4 or 5 greens that were dramatically slower (shagpile like) than the rest. Many greens had bare patches on them.

Played 30/12/15

Was surprised to find the course packed at 4PM, even with 3 possible 9s to start from.  ( I played 19-27 & 10-18 ) Found the course to be in great condition 8.5/10 (1/2 a lost point due to bunker presentation) The Course winds it way through sand based bushland, and is very undulating in some places, with some good bunkering and green complexes. I found it to be an enjoyable fair / not overly penal course that both the regular golfer, and once a year player would enjoy, and it was good value for a $27 Green fee. I could see why it was so busy.

Wow, has this course improved over the last 12 months. Firstly since i last played back in 2013, thegreens have improved so much, great speed and tru roll. There's been much work on the bunkers and the fairways as well were in tip top condition. All golfers heading to Port Stephens should tee it up at Nelson Bay.Very playable and enjoyable day out...thanks i'll be back. Regards Stoney

Played Nelson Bay today in pennants(10/3), haven't played this course since it went to 27 holes. Well that has been some time ago, but remember it as a fair layout always in good condition. Today we played 1 to 18, the greens were great but a little slow as expected given the rain of late, fairways very good also didn't really need preferred lies as was on the local board. The big letdown on the course are the new holes, which are riduculously narrow. The 5th hole par 3 everyone in our group had to hit a knockdown 8 or 9 iron to avoid the overhanging tree 40 metres in front of the tee. The semicircular 12th, they must be kidding, in the middle of the fairway 100 metres, had to hook a wedge to avoid the tree, that is not golf. Don't go near this place unless you are off 4 or less.

Played Nelson Bay today with one of the locals, and had a great day. Greens were fantastic, as were the fairways. Would highly recommend if you are in the port stephens area to drop in and have a game at Nelson bay.
