In December 1963, with a meeting of 32 people at the Tea Gardens Hotel, the Hawks Nest Golf Club was formed. The layout is made up of mostly straight holes lined by tall native trees, minimal water hazards and all but one green protected by greenside bunkers. The ability to irrigate in the drier times keeps this track looking its best year round with carpet like fairways and finely manicured greens a real pleasure to play on. Holes of note on the front nine include the 167m par 3 5th with the sound of waves rolling in from beyond the scrub and the right dogleg par 4 8th with a shapely green to test your short game and putting skills. The back nine features two consecutive and reachable par 5s along with the left bending 390m par 4 11th (index 1), the huge 12th green which is almost 40m long and the 324m par 4 17th with a slightly elevated and shallow green that slopes from front to back. The impeccable playing surfaces combined with the stunning scenery that surrounds the townships of Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens should encourage plenty of holiday makers to the course which is located within close proximity to caravan parks, hotels and rental houses.

Played there on the 23rd of Nov I cant Believe just how good it was .I mean I used to be a junior Member there and can not recall it ever being this good .the green surrounds where fantastic . AS was the rest of the course even with bit of rain it played nicley . I will say greens Looked faster then they where but by no means dead . As always played a littel slow and was stuck behind three I pressume 3 members that didnt seem to care about holding us up every freakin hole . Which We were not impressed at all . The cafe in the club left a bit to be disired but did not go for the food .

The course is pretty good. Just the proshop rudeness put us off and this is the second time this has happened.

Having played Hawks Nest this past month I think 2 stars (last review) is a tad light on. Sure, the tree lined mostly straight fairways with minimal bunkering and no water hazards may "for some" be a tad uninspiring on the tee box, but by the time you account for perfect greens (and this is in August!), a beautiful native bushland setting with no houses overlooking & holes like the 185m par 3 5th a cracker of test into a prevailing southerly with OB down the entire left side then the dog left par 5 6th straight after I think 3 to 3.5 stars for the experience is more realistic.

Not a long course by any means even from the blue tips, but if you have played and enjoyed courses like Nelson Bay & Tuncurry, then you'll love the $30, 4 hour stroll around this lay out in a very peaceful part of the world.

Having read the reviews and heard some positive comment, I think i was expecting a little more from this course. Certainly in good condition, particularly the greens. But the course itself was a little plain jane, and looking back at the course 2 days later, i can hardly recall a hole which i thought was memorable.
