I played here last week (21 Feb). The course was a bit wet from
recent rain so it isn’t quite fair to comment on its
But I’m not surprised to learn that the front nine was
built before the back. It is as if the designers were told to
make the back nine easier, as the front was too long for the
The first few holes are good, next few OK but not very exciting,
but the back nine is too short. 17 and 18 are good, but
it’s as if they are on a different course after six 250m
par 4’s and 120m par 3’s in a row. The primary market
is probably the casual holiday maker rather than the serious
golfer, so it fulfils that role OK.
Only play here if you can’t get a game, or don’t
won’t to be held up by the crowds, at Port Macquarie.
Played the front 9 last week during a holiday at Port Macquarie
and I was quite pleased with the challenge that the course
provides. With the dense forest on the right side of the fairway
on the 3rd and 5th holes, drives need to be accurate. As someone
else said, 6 to 9 run parallel and you can afford to be a bit
errant and still have a relatively clear 2nd shot to the green.
Overall a good test with some room for improvement.
Have played here often, and if you hit off the fairway, just
FORGET finding your golfball. It disappears into the jungle. It
is otherwise well kept, and you can enjoy some close viewing of
kangaroos, and the occasional koala and gekko.
Despite the fact that it says this course has 18 holes it is
actually a 9 hole course with more to come and I might add that
it is a very good little public course with some of the best
greens I have ever seen>
Had the opportunity to play both the nine holes at emerald downs
and Port golf club in june.
The first few holes at emerald start off great, a short dogleg
-blind tee first, 130m water carry par three and a tight driving
shoot for the third hole. Next couple are quite good, however the
last four holes to finish the 9 seems as if the designer lost
creativity. These are up and down holes with no punishment for
wild tee shot.
Overall a good warm up to the real test Port Macquarie GC.
i played emerald downs a few weeks ago and my god they are the
best greens and cleanly cut fairways in all of n.s.w the
greenskeepers are friendly and the staff in the clubhouse are the
most knowledgable about varietys of golfing equipment in
australia. The greens are perfect the bunkers are clean the
scenery is beatuful with luscious bush and forestry and large
crystal ponds with fish and turtles swimming gracefully through
over all well done to managers and owners Ashley Roods and Todd
Roods well done and good luck in the future.
Measured 5181m Par 70 from the back plates when I played there on
26/9/06 with a longer front nine than back nine, but a more
challenging back nine? With 6 Par 3s ranging from 115-180m,
mostly 8 shortish Par 4s ranging from 235-360m and 4 flat,
unchallenging Par 5s ranging from 440-480m. All but the 5th Par 5
are straight, flat holes with 2 bunkers.
The 150m 2nd is a good hole over water with bunkers guarding
green left and rightside. The back nine winds its way around the
future housing development site, and is marked by many short par
4s 235m 11th, 270m 13th, 290m 14th and 255m 16th. The closing 2
holes are the best on this course. The 350m 17th Par 4 (index 3)
with fairway sloping to the OOB on the left with water over the
back of green and bunker on the right. The 170m 18th (index 1)
sees you finish yor round with a tantalising shot over water from
tee to green with a bunker on the left. My 2 fave holes by far.
The walk to the clubhouse from the 18th green is longer than the
par 4s on the back nine combined. I asked the club, and there are
no plans to make a hole towards the clubhouse, and thus
lengthening the some par 4s on the back nine. Could do with
revamp to compete with PMGC
Paid $20 green fees for 18 holes, and with land packages
available in the future, this course needs to improve its quality
and possibly accept membership in the future. A good confidence
building course for the more challenging PMGC 2 minute drive down
