The new course layout is great links style on the front half and tree scape on the other half along with the shortland wetlands on some of the holes a abundance of bird life {if the golf game isn`t going very well} lol . A must try, fast greens

Played here last week and it was an up and down experience. Round didn't start off well with the attitude we copped from the pro shop. Their service didn't improve at our mid-way stop. The course was very lush given all the recent rain, greens were generally in very good condition. They are obviously investing some money in the course, there were large areas of returfing on a couple of fairways. They also had ball cleaners with towels on each hole, which is always a good indicator to me about how active the club is in maintaining their course. But enough can't be said about the mosquitos. Do NOT play this course without having lathered yourself in Bushman. Otherwise you'll be scratching for days.

Not a bad course. Don't think I would go back and play again. Alot of bare patches throughout the course, with no preferred lie. Poorly designed, and the mosquito problem made for a very unenjoyable day. Felt like walking off after 3 holes, the mosquitoes were that bad. Pro shop staff were ok. Not over friendly, however the clubhouse staff were great and very welcoming.

50% of holes I like here, they tend to keep drawing me back in, but only every now and then. Nothing spectacular here, but is definitely the kind of course that anyone could enjoy, from kids to pros

It’s a good course for novices & pro’s alike, with some tricky holes dog-legging either left or right. It’s a par 71 course, consisting of “3” par 5’s,”11” par 4’s & “4” par 3’s.The par 3’s are straight forward, but be careful of the wind on the 1st of the par 3 holes, which usually has a cross wind blowing from left to right & the long par 3 15th hole, which goes across water with at times a strong head-wind to compete with.WARNING…Bring your insect repellent with you or stay out of the woods!!! for mossies breed in a swamp near by.After your game have a icy-cold re-freshment at the clubhouse.

Shortland Waters used to be called ‘Steelworks’ due to a BHP Research facility that used to be located beside the course. It is an 18 hole parkland style members course that is generally busy on weekends but open for social play on weekdays. It’s 5937m Par 71 (front nine 36, back nine 35 with only one par 5, and ACR 70) and is quite undulating with plenty of little changes in elevation. It’s interesting enough and has some challenges but nothing that really stands out to recommend it. The biggest problems are that during summer it is generally damp and has plenty of mossies about (due to fact it is partially on swamp land and is close to the Hexham Swamp which is mosquito breeding central) and during winter it is damp and cold! I don’t know what the issue is with drainage (or lack thereof) but the course always seems heavy underfoot.
