Uralla's flat par 70 layout sits just over 1000m above sea level beside the New England Highway on the southern edge of town. There are several bunkers spread throughout the course and fairways are lined by gums and pines. Water comes into play on a couple of tee shots and on your approach to the 8th and 16th greens. The 16th is a par 5 with water to clear off the tee and a dam to avoid on the left of the putting surface with OOB looming down the right. 3 of the 5 par 3's are over 170m and the most challenging is probably the 3rd. Measuring 177m, this green is impeded by two towering pine trees which doesn't allow any room for error off the tee. The greens at Uralla are some of the best you'll find on a regional course and although some are a little small, they are often elevated with lush surrounds and the surface is impeccable and are a real pleasure to putt on. If you’re chasing a relaxing round in the high country without the crowds of the larger centres than Uralla Golf Club is well suited. There is a great mix of challenging aspects and a few birdie opportunities should make for an enjoyable round of golf next time you pass through this picturesque region. $20 for 18 holes
Located 20km south of Armidale, Uralla GC is quite a well
maintained course for a town thats population is around 2500.
ACR is 69 and is one of the more affordable courses. $15 for 18
holes and $10 for 9 holes for 7 days.
Greens are very well maintined (up to city course standard)
although the fairways have quite thin topsoil. I shot 10 over par
here, as the wind played a large part. Hazards include water
(1st, 2nd, 16th, 17th) and not many bunkers around the greens.
If you are in the New England region must have a hit at Uralla
GC, its quite challenging and very affordable.
