Longyard Golf Club

Rapidly gaining a reputation as an exceptional test of golf, Longyard Golf Club is a real country gem, just outside the metropolitan region of Tamworth. It is a Harrison/Norman designed course, which boasts Santa Anna Couch fairways along with bent grass greens. Longyard was also the venue for the 2002 NSW Masters.

I have played this course a bit on and off over the last year or so, and it just amazes me how this course can be so cheap to play. Awsome layout with some of the best finnishing holes of any course ive played, and the condition of the course every time i play seems to get better and better, Apparently they only have 4.5 greenstaff who do an amazing job. This is a must to play for anyone travelling through Tamworth, or looking for a golfing destination. Chur.

This is a great golf course. A typical Greg Norman design, it has deep bunkers and a few water carries. The fairways and greens were in good condition and it can easily be walked. The third hole has an unseen hazard in front of the green and there are a couple of other holes where local knowledge is an asset. The greens are very large with undulations and ridges through them. The greenkeeper must have had a bad day the day before we played as all the pins were tucked away in tough spots. Probably the pick of the holes is the 16th, a short par 3 (120m for Men and 89m for Ladies), however there is water right and front and a huge bunker left. If you find the bunker it is a downhill shot with the water waiting for anything not hit correctly. Even finding the green guarantees nothing, I hit the back left of the green with the pin front left, 4 putts later I was in! We played it on Tuesday afternoon and had the course to ourselves. Green fees of $20 are extremely cheap for the quality on offer and it is a must play if you are in the area.

What an awesome course. Conditioning is something i don’t put too much emphasis on because it can change quickly, and it is at this course. Development galore adding real class to this amazing lay-out. Challenging but rewarding this course is long in parts and highly entertaining. Greg Norman design encorporates the amazing rolling greens that can leave you with some facinating putts! If this course was in Sydney, or on the sand strip in VIC you’d be paying $100 + to play here! I LOVE IT!

THis is a very challenging course with a lot of potential for the future. Development galore going on at the moment. A tough test of golf but fully worth it. Some really challenging holes and if the wind blows hang on to your hats!
