What a find Gerringong is.

A true links course with views, views and more views of the ocean.

Every hole is different and has got to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of golf you could have.

I played with no wind, but this course would be difficult when the wind comes in off the ocean.

Par 5 over the beach is one of the beast par 5s I’ve played in Australia.

Rock up at 7am and a Tuesday and the fee is $15 inc comp fee if your a member of another golf course.

Play here don’t even think twice.

One of my favs

Gerringong is a memorable course just for the scenery alone and views to the coast. The golf is a real test of endurance is its very hilly with steep shots up and down. The first T shot gives you the impression of a fairly easy round but as you walk over the hill to your second shot as a first time visitor you soon realize you are in for a stern test of your game. There are many blind shots over hills with water lurking and sharp dog legs that can catch you out. The layout is a links style with beautiful grassed fairways. Every shot is on a slope so you really need all your skills to keep the ball in play with many lost balls off the fairways in the water or rough. As a first time visitor the course was very friendly with a typical country feel. The signposting on the course was very poor as we spend many wasted minutes looking for the next hole. Some fairways are hard to separate from hole to hole and some holes cross each other. The Blue, Red, White and Yellow Tees are well separated so all grade of players can take their chances. This is one of the most memorable golf courses but suggest you take a cart the first time as it plays longer than the card at 5435m. Would definitely return and for $26 was a great game.

Ive been playing Gerringong Golf Club for over 10 years and ive never seen it in better condition. Over the past few years the course has undergone many improvements mainly converting the greens to bent grass and upgrading drainage and watering systems. With these changes the course has become one of the best places to play on the south coast of NSW. A quick glance at the scorecard suggests its short and like most links courses it doesnt have many trees, but the exposure to the elements and sloping fairways provide the real challenge. Add to that penal rough that swallows errant shots and you have a tricky course with breathtaking views. First timers will notice a lack of bunkering but as the club develops and grows these changes will come. However missing any of these greens and chipping out of the kikuyu rough tests all the skills of a golfer. The standout hole is the 514m Par 5 4th which wraps around Walkers Beach. This 3 shotter must be played over 2 dams with long rough either side of the fairway to a green located just 20m from the Pacific Ocean. An interesting sidenote to this hole is that the beach is an integral part of the course and balls can be played from the golden sands if needed. Give this place a chance you'll be pleasently surprised and challenged.

Situated beside Walkers Beach and surrounded by rolling hills and healthy cows, Gerringong's links style par 72 course is a real find on the Illawarra south coast. The setting alone is a great reason for a round here with an early morning tee off rewarded with a beautiful sunrise over the Pacific Ocean. The undulating layout keeps every hole different and sets up a few blind tee shots and some tricky approaches to narrow, elevated greens. Water comes into play several holes but especially on the 514m 4th hole with two dams to navigate, the 7th with water guarding the green and on the 11th with a dam sitting at the end of the fairway. There are only a handful of bunkers to avoid and are mainly confided to three greens. A few shortish par 4's and calm conditions will help you score well but if the wind picks up, this course can turn into a real beast with a missed green resulting in a tricky up and down. Gerringong is one of only a handful of genuine coastal links courses in this state and the uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape and the sound of waves rolling in while you hit yourself around the course cannot be underestimated. What a great golfing experience! $26 for 18 holes.

Played at Gerringong yesterday 24/07/11 for the first time ever after 5 days of rain in the Illawarra. The course is absolutely beautiful even with cloud cover and would easily be the fave amongst anyone with perfect playing conditions. This is a very challenging course for a beginner like myself and the group I was with. Many times we didnt know which hole we were aiming for as there were no defined holes as other courses I have played at. If your ball goes in the rough, then forget it, take a drop and continue on. The 2nd hole is damaged from the rain, but I have since found out that the 18th hole needs to be played twice. Due to the rain, the greens were extremely slow, but the grounds were in good nick for all the rain we had. A beautiful and picturesque course and I will easily play here again when my golf game improves. At $25 green fees for 18 holes.. very good value !!

Measures 5586m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 102-178m, ten par 4s ranging from 263-373m and four par 5s ranging from 425-514m. Quite possibly the shortest Par 72 layout in the state of NSW. As others have noted the views of Walkers surf beach is stunning, however, the course is not very challenging. Overall there are too many short par 4s, no par 3s are bunkered and apart from the 4th all par 5s are weak and short (less than 450m in length). Links-style layout with thinly covered kikuyu grass on the fairways with smooth, but a little slow bent grass greens. The 1st green has not been converted to bent grass and is currently tuftgrass. Quite a hilly layout with only 10 bunkers on the course and too soggy fairways during winter. There is the sloping fairway to contend with here and a few blind teeshots: 373m slight dogleg left 1st (index 12), the 263m uphill 9th (index 17), the 90 degree dogleg right 280m 10th (index 11), the short 425m Par 5 11th (index 15) with water 80m short of the bunkerless green and the 360m slight dogleg right 16th (index 2) with a wide but shallow green guarded by a bunker short. Standout hole here is the 514m sweeping dogleg left par 5 4th (index 1) with an elevated tee with a dam 280-320m from the tee and another dam 20-70m short of the bunkerless green to avoid with Walkers Beach OOB along the entire leftside from tee to green... The 291m straight 12th with dam 100m short of the green on the right is the best bunkered green with 3 bunkers. Located 2km south of Gerringong, 15km south of Kiama, 25km northeast of Nowra and about 50km south of Wollongong it is the southernmost golf course in the Illawarra region. Played here 7/6/2011 with $25 green fees for 18 holes and $17 green fees for 9 holes.
