Central Coast
Toukley Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 72
6199 M

This beautifully set out 18 hole championship course was designed by Mr Mike Kelly, Mr Tom Linksey and Mr Tim Woolbank.

The sound atmosphere of the scenic Central Coast, the course being only across the road from Lakes Beach proves a tranquil and enjoyable golfing experience.

The front 9, set out through one of the last paper bark tree forests in N.S.W, has plentiful native bird life.

The challenging narrow fairways keep any golfer honest, while the back 9 is somewhat a contrast to the front, with wider fairways and more frequent water carries.

Only after failing to get on to other nearby central coast courses during the week due to comps, I managed to find Toukley that was open for social golf and was I glad to play on it. It's a great layout, the front 9 was tight and challenging, but the surrounds were lush and beautiful. The back 9 opened up the course and became more forgiving. The 1st & 10th tees offers elevated views of the holes, and more so from the clubhouse after your game, soaking it in with the complimentary drinks voucher.

I was very surprised with the conditions, the greens were consistent and well maintained. That goes for the rest of the course really. Having played on my own the first 9, it was nice to be joined by a member for the back 9 who offered lots of local advice, which I will use next time when I come back: play the back 9 first to warm up and nail the front 9 afterwards.

Just over 2 years since the previous reviewso time for an update. Established in the 1970s Toukley has become one of the most challenging layouts on the Central Coast. Measures 6142m Par 72 with four par 3s ranging from 135-196m, ten par 4s ranging from 288-395m and four par 5s ranging from 460-532m. Course is sand-based with a mixture of kikuyu/couch/rye grass fairways and rough with a noticeable bare patches on its fairways. The small-to-medium sized poa/bent grass greens are smooth but play a little slow because of these 2 grass types. There are numerous water hazards and OOB off the wide fairways with a total of 19 bunkers on the course which are all mostly on the front nine. Highlights include: the 395m straight 2nd (index 3) with a greenside bunker short left; the 295m slight bend left 3rd (index 13) to a green guarded by a pond short left and 2 bunkers short and rightside; the 378m straight 5th (index 7) with a bunker short right; the 384m slight bend left 7th (index 5) with OOB along the entire leftside from tee to green which is guarded by 3 bunkers; the 381m 9th (index 1) which doglegs 45 degrees right from 190m off the tee with trees on the dogleg corner to take on for the longer hitters which will leave a low iron into the front-sloping green guarded by a deep bunker right; the long 532m and straight 15th (index 2) requires a layup for most golfers off the tee to reach the creek which crosses the fairway 230-250m off the tee with more water hazards left and right over the creek to the bunkerless small green; and the 370m straight 18th (index 4) with a red-staked pond on the right about 240m off the tee to a green guarded by a large bunker rightside. The course has 2 distinct style nines: the front nine has medium-sized thickly vegetated paperbark tea tree-lined fairways with also some palm trees and ferns in the OOB which is mostly on one side of the fairway with a few water hazards and 15 bunkers with only the 475m 1st being entirely bunkerless; the back nine is more open with shorter trees and every hole having a water hazard (ponds or wetlands) coming into general play on one side of the fairway and OOB on the other side of the fairway with mostly unbunkered smallish flat greens. The course offers 2 elevated teeshots at the 1st and 10th with many water hazards lining the fairways. The back nine could do with more greenside bunkers but the water hazards and smallish greens are enough to challenge most golfers. Course access is from Key Street in the suburb/town of Toukley near Norah Head about 20 minutes from Wyong CBD. On holes 11-15 you can just hear the waves crashing on Lakes Beach over the Central Coast Highway traffic noise. Surrounded by water on 3 sides of the course boundaries you should expect milder temperatures with windy conditions year-round, so not sure what the 2004 reviewer is on about as the highest ever recorded temperature at nearby Norah Head was 42C. Course is more challenging than nearby Wyong but generally not as well-conditioned as Wyong. This course is quite a challenge and I would recommend this course for all golfers as an alternative (or a warm-up) for Magenta Shores or Kooindah Waters. Played here 13/1/2012 with $29 green fees and $15 twilight golf fees after 4pm. Friendly staff and members here.

Played Toukley a couple of days back and was impressed with the condition of the course. Fairways were green, well mown and lush with the greens running consistently across all 18 holes. As has been said previously, the front and back nine are very different. A wayward stroke anywhere on the course can find you unwrapping a new ball. If you're on the Central Coast and haven't played Toukley you are missing out. Next time I'm back on the coast I'll be playing here again.

Toukley is a great course with a tight challenging layout. Very pretty with a good Pro Shop and club. If you have trouble with wayward shots, take several balls with you as the rough can swallow up balls at an alarming rate. Plenty of water hazards and bunkers as well. I wish this course was closer to home as I love it.

Played this course a few days ago with my father. The two halves of the course are completely different. Both were in a fairly good condition and the course has a good layout. The pro in the shop was a good bloke and the clubhouse had a good atmosphere. When the wind picks up I'd imagine this course would get pretty tough. The green fees here are good and the wildlife on the course can be pretty spectacular. If I m on holiday in the area again I ll definitely play here again

Great course used for the NSW Amature comp in 2007. Running Fairways Fast Greens and a structure that allows movemnet and the ability to hit a strong second shot into the green
