About Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club

Magenta Shores is the only private golf course located on the NSW Central Coast. Members and their guests have the opportunity to play one of the newest and highly ranked courses in Australia right along edge of the Pacific Ocean. Only minutes from your villa and you can be teeing off at Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club. This eighteen hole traditional "links" style championship course designed by renowned architect Ross Watson, was recently voted 'Best Resort Course in NSW'; 'Best New Course in Australia' and 'No. 6 Resort Course in Australia'. Golf Australia Magazine 2007 The layout and design of this course reminds you of many great courses of Britain and Ireland. It consists of two loops each of nine holes. The front nine starts off to have you heading south overlooking the Pacific Ocean and on the other side Tuggerah Lake. The first nine holes are beach holes with magnificent ocean views with the 9th green only metres away from the main clubhouse by electric cart. The back nine have you heading north along rainforest and national parks, finishing with a challenging and interesting eighteenth (Par 5) that brings you home to a magnificent clubhouse. This course has a good practice facility, consisting of putting greens, a warm-up driving range and chipping green with bunkers.

Had a round with a social club, the day was beautiful and the course was in a great condition. Accurate tee shots are required onto narrow and open exposed fairways but don't expect to be rewarded with easy lies as it's very undulating. The immaculate greens were hard to read as they were hard and fast. Spend that extra little time on the practice greens. The course marshals were out and about ensuring fast play, giving you little time to think and assess the abundance of bunkers placed strategically at every yardage. Having a modern GPS system in the cart is great, it's fast and responsive and you can see exactly where the group in front is at all times. Just don't get carried away chasing around your sprays because the computer is clever and will say no and you'll be forced to reverse back onto the fairway, or worst case physically push it forward if the cart shuts at an awkward position! The facilities are resort grade and the staff professional and friendly. For a seaside track, you're not going to get much of ocean scenery (about 2 holes worth) but there are redeeming landscapes throughout to enjoy. Would love to come back again.

Great course as i have played it a number of times however this time seeing that they have cleared much of the native bush throughout the course is a shame. It used to feel like an adventure driving between holes as they would not reveal themselves until you turned a corner of the cart path and wow, there the next hole was. Now you can see the holes around you and the people playing them. It doesn't feel as wild as it used to. This clearing to make way for housing has really robbed the back 9 of its itimidation factor to the detriment of the course. Especially for holes 13 and 14 all the bush to the right is now gone... What was once a very scary stretch of holes which made you shake in your boots has had its fangs filed down to allow for future housing development. I must say i am grateful that i had a chance to play the course as it was without this drastic change. Be interesting to see how this might affect its top 100 ranking..? Definately one of the best courses in NSW and Australia however they have taken some of the spirit out of Magenta.. :(

Played as a visitor on 7th August in the competition. Found the staff helpful and informative, even the next day when I was checking the results. The course itself is a real challenge. Comparing it to QLD courses its probably just behind Brookwater in terms of toughness. The first 7 have a distinct coastal feel with some good short par 4's. Holes 8-10 again feel different and probably one of the tougher stretches. The 9th in particular, with any wind in your face is definitely worth the index 1. 11 - 18 have some good variety but feel really strange with all the natural bushland being cleared for future housing. The course was in great condition, even with some winter maintenance being completed. The fairways were consistent and the greens were very good with constant feel on all 18, being slightly on firm side. Only downside was the small amount of GUR but you expect this from time to time. The members were all friendly on course which helps. Pays to have a working golf app or friendly local to play with as definitely a challenging course for your 10-20 handicapper.

I've played here 3 times. Absolutely stunning course but boy it's hard, especially on the first visit when you don't know what to expect. Even in calm conditions it's a really tough challenge with all the stunning bunkering and when the wind gets up it's just brutal. So many holes have real 'WOW' factor as you stand on the tee or get ready for your approaches. I found the Golfshot iPhone app didn't seem to work here and with lots of blind shots a course guide is essential. Don't expect to score well here but just enjoy the natural beauty of the course and the stunning layout. I'm about an 8 handicap and was 1 under through 6 holes and still only just broke 90.

Sensational layout which will test you to the max. Some really strong holes here demand accuracy both from the tee and from the fairways. Greens typically large and tough too, typical links style. Clubhouse had rather a poor snack selection and I was unable to get a sandwich pre round. Expensive pro shop too. Don't let that put you off though - this as enjoyable as golf gets in NSW.
