Yass Golf Club
18 Holes
PAR 68
5193 M

Celebrating its centenary year in 2003, the Yass Golf Club is the 29th oldest course in New South Wales.

The Yass Golf Club is a fully irrigated 18-hole grass green course measuring 5193 metres with a par of "68" and an ACR of 66. The course may appear small, however there is mean streak hiding beneath the demure appearance with undulating fairways and greens with real break, you will need you’re "A" game to deliver.

The course is in good nick usually and is 90% kikuyu. Personally I do not enjoy playing at Yass mainly because of the no hazard factor. Low markers (if they are good of the tee)should be able to play to the courses par (most of the time).

Measures 5193m Par 68 with six par 3s ranging from 105-212m, ten par 4s ranging from 265-383m and two par 5s ranging from 458-520m. To be honest if you are a low single marker, you would not be playing here as it is not challenging and you would never know what a bunker is, as the course has no bunkers and no water hazards! Course is a hilly, parkland tree-lined style course with mostly kikuyu fairways mixed with patches of South African couch grass which are in good condition, with flat, smooth reasonably paced bent grass greens with small kikuyu teebeds which are mostly bare. FRONT NINE highlights include the 212m par 3 6th (index 2) with an elevated teeshot over a gully to a front-sloping green, the 458m dogleg left slightly uphill 7th (index 11) with OOB on the left and tall pine trees lining both sides of the fairway to a smallish right-sloping green, the 383m 9th (index 9) with a elevated teeshot straight downhill to a longish green. BACK NINE highlights include the 158m steep downhill 15th (index 10) with good views of the town from the teebox where you cross the 12th fairway and walk around the dam to teeoff with trees short right which actually guard the 17th teebox - strange layout pocket of holes 15-17, the 343m slight dogleg right 17th (index 6) with a overhanging tall tree branches on the right making a slightly narrower driving hole off the tee to a narrow front-sloping green and the 520m straight 18th (index 4) with OOB fence far right over tall trees lining the fairway to a flat green. Played here again most recently 7th April 2011 and paid $24 social green fees. Nice clubhouse and some good views over the town from the from the top of the dam embankment on the 15th tee. Course desperately needs some bunkers... Located 45 minutes northwest of Canberra along the Barton Highway and on the south-western edge of town for a town of 5500 people, Yass GC is not an overly demanding country-style bunkerless course to play.

The par may be only 68 however the course plays several shots harder. Small greens with plenty of break and tightish tree lined undulating fairways. A challenging but enjoyable stroll.
