USER RATING

Crookwell Golf course is a picturesque 9 hole, 18 tee course with abundant trees, well groomed fairways, waterways and elevated greens. The course is a comfortable walk for the social golfer but also tough enough to be a challenge for the more serious golfer.

Crookwell is also famous for its hospitality and friendly atmosphere, and the Golf Club is known throughout the Southern Highlands as "the friendly club".

This is a great little course which is quite challenging. Its slope rating is 123. The fairways vary depending on the season. In summer there is usually plenty of run but in winter the fairways are well grassed and playing to your handicap can be difficult. Greens are excellent and some slopes can be quite challenging. The first green, which for many players was a standard three putt affair, has been reshaped somewhat but, depending on the pin placement, is still tough enough. The course and the clubhouse have improved greatly in recent years. Visitors are welcomed. It is easy to get a game in the Saturday morning competition. No need to book a tee time. Arrive about 10.30 and you will have a great day.

It's been nearly 3 years since the last review which I do not entirely agree with. One must remember the course is run entirely by volunteers and the greens are cut twice a week. There is no fairway watering so 2-3 months of the year the course will be much drier than its present lush green winter conditioning now...having said that we just had a La Nina 2010/11 summer + above average Autumn rains across eastern Australia. Course is a short-medium sized tree-lined layout measuring 2884m Par 35 with natural mix of fescue/rye grass fairway with mostly flat ryegrass teebeds with consistent and smooth bent grass greens. The course was designed in 1953 with all greens front-sloping for chip&run shots. This has not changed since but what has is the inclusion of 7 bunkers on the entire course. 1st-426m Par 5/ 10th-412m Par 4 - plays slightly uphill to a bunkerless green with OOB Grange Road far left. 2nd-312m / 11th-302m - slight downhill with tall trees right, OOB Cullen Street far left with a small creek diagonally across the fairway 40-80m out from the green guarded by 3 bunkers. 3rd-407m Par 4 / 12th-482m Par 5 - wide fairway crest with OOB East Street far left to a 30m-long bunkerless green with a small dam left. 4th-140m / 13th-150m - teeshot over a small dam to a green guarded by bunker left and short. 5th-404m Par 4 / 14th-437m Par 5 - slightly uphill from the gentle dogleg left to a bunkerless green. 6th-316m Par 4 / 15th-198m Par 3 - straight hole with a bunker short right. 7th-156m / 16th-146m - teeshot over small dam with watersedge 3m from the front of the 30m-long bunkerless green. 8th-381m / 17th-354m - slight uphill which slightly doglegs left from 210m from the tee to a bunkerless green. 9th-342m / 18th-383m slight downhill which slightly doglegs right from 180m from the tee to a green guarded by bunker right and water hazard 5m short right of the green. Played here 24/5/2011 with $15 green fees in an honesty box system which most smaller country towns have in place. Located 915m above sea level on the south-eastern edge of town, for a town of around 2000 people, Crookwell is an above-average country course with friendly members and staff. Worth a visit as there are no other grass green courses in the area...closest grass greens within 1 hours drive are Goulburn and Yass.

Played there on sunday, not tryin to be mean but the course is a goat track and the greens are fairly good. Staff are nice. However, what puzzles me about this course is their "honesty box". golfers are encouraged to put their green fees in a red box titled the honesty box, so technically if someone wanted to play they could get on for nothing which i feel is a contributing factor to the reason this club is struggling finacially. this club does not have greenskeepers. volunteers from the are come and maintain the course. so in all, not good condition but one of those friendly courses. I probably play there again if i was in the area. P.s. the course can be freezing the max temp was 8 degrees.
