The expansive and pristine fairways of the 18-hole championship course undulate through stands of majestic eucalypts towards quality greens protected by well placed bunkers and swales. Native birds and animals flourish in the surrounding bush, and the golfer is presented with glorious views of the Brindabella Ranges on most holes.

The golf course challenges players of all skill levels with its 6,312 metre, par 73 layout, while the clubhouse offers solace or reward after the game.

The practice facilities are comprehensive, with putting and chipping greens, bunker areas, nets, short iron and driving ranges. The course is complimented with a superb clubhouse that regularly hosts corporate golf days, weddings, seminars and other functions.

The atmosphere is polite and friendly and the staff are only too happy to facilitate your requirements.

Federal welcomes visitors and golfing groups. Play on weekends after 3.30pm by arrangement only.

Played here 22/3/18.

I also played here 15 years back and could not remember much about this course. Maybe due to conditioning at thst time ir the playing surfaces?

Since being converted to Legend couch fairways recently this course has improved dramatically. The playing surfaces suit the topography and create a natural feel that the course lacked in the past.

Whilst by all means this is not a layout that competes with the top 50 in Australia, it can steadily rise up the rankings with improved classic style and more stategic bunkering to improve definition.

Allways thought Yowani was a better course but now Federal is comfortably No 2 in ACT.

A memorable experience.

Well done Federal !!

Played this course a few days ago and it's a good golf course. It probably doesn't get much recognition because it lacks a wow factor but there is not a weak hole on the course. It reminded me of Murray Downs without the lakes. Good variety of left and right doglegs, nice elevation changes and you'll get to play every club in the bag with short and long holes. I thought it was in good condition given they are struggling for water and it's the middle of summer. Fairways were firm in parts which is a problem for the scoopers but I didn't have what I would consider a bad lie. The greens are not billiard tables but the ball rolled well and the pace was consistent. The bunkers were the only letdown. They are rock hard and everything was a flyer. My favourite holes were the little par 4 5th which is driveable for the long hitters and the green is tucked away to the right, the par 5 7th that has a tiered green high left and low right rewarding the player who can position their second shot accurately and the uphill 14th that has a false front. $80 is a bit steep and although I would gladly play the course again the green fee is a bit prohibitive.

Edit: Something I struggle to understand but see often is that the 2 shortest par 3's had a bunker positioned right in the throat of the green. All these bunkers do is penalise the shortest of hitters who find a standard golf course long enought to start with and they never come in to play for the better golfer. Surely the golf community is trying to encourage as many golfers to play as much golf as possible!

Played Federal today 5/8/2013, has to be the poorest maintained course in Canberra. If you are looking for somewhere to play an enjoyable round of golf in Canberra this is not the place, try other courses as Federal is going down hill quickly.

This is the pick of the courses in the ACT (although I've never played Royal Canberra). The courses has a beautiful setting and a round here is delightfully tranquil. The course is long and hilly and well designed - each hole throws up a challenge of some description but no holes are over designed to the point where you don't feel like you'll have a chance. The fairways are beautiful to play off, the greens are quick, receptive and roll true too. Some greens are better than others, I think they're dealing with some parasitic grasses in points but I'd say the greens are in good condition overall. Course pace is steady and the proshop manages the course well.

The first thing you see when you drive into the Federal is the golf range on the right hand side of the car park which is not the prettiest site. Don't let your first impression fool you. After playing the Par 5 first, i was thirsty for more, and it really did deliver. Along with the great fairways and greens, The Federals bushy design has a real tranquil feel to it which compliments the overall experience. Great practice facilities and friendly staff make The Federal a must play in The ACT.

This is a very good layout in excellent condition. The greens and fairways were in fantastic condition, always giving a good lie on the fairway and the greens were a good pace and rolled well. The course is quite undulating, but can be walked comfortably. There are quite a lot of doglegs on the course and most of the holes tend to have a slope from one side to the other. This causes the ball to be funnelled to one side of the fairway (or further into the rough) irrespective of the landing position. The bunkers are strategically well placed, however were in poor condition with variable sand coverage. It is a course you need to have played a few times to know where to aim because of the sloping fairways. We played in the Saturday comp with a couple of members and were made to feel at home. The Pro shop staff were very friendly and the clubhouse and members very welcoming. The green fees are $75, however we were given Member Guest rates, so only paid $50 plus $10 comp fee.We got around in about 4 hours. The course is a par 72 (rating 73) for men and par 73 (rating 76) for women. Well worth a visit if you are in the area
