I play this course regularly, and it is considered one of the best in the ACT / Queanbeyan area. Better players rate this course second only to Royal Canberra for it’s difficulty, and you can be assured it’s always in top condition. The course is located along the Queanbeyan River, and although the Club tries to save water where possible, it has a good supply, and is the reason it alway looks green … even in the peak of summer, when other clubs tend to be suffering. Well worth a visit I rate it 8/10.
I played Queanbeyan in September in 2004.It is a fun course built on the side of the hill so if you miss the fairway or approach to the green you can be severley penalised. Some of the holes are quite spectactular and well protected by gum trees. The course was in excellent condition and greens superb. Even the Kangaroos were friendly. A great unique course where the average golfer can shoot a good score, but the top golfer can be challenged. The only criticism is that the course could do with a couple of short par 4s that offer an eagle but can increase your score with an errant tee shot.
I first joined this club in 1975. This year I let my membership lapse due to a severe back injury. I can't play but I need to practice as part of my rehabilitation. So after 40 years of playing at Queanbeyan, I'm over it. Good bye old friend, it was a love hate relationship, the course is horrible, always will be. It's a bad town course that's quite tough, and really very boring.
